If you love vanilla, this Vanilla Mule is one you need to try!

With crisp ginger beer and served perfectly chilled in a copper Mule mug, a Moscow Mule is a delicious cocktail no matter what time of year.

This Vanilla Moscow Mule is just the drink to help you transition into fall. That comforting vanilla flavor nods to the seasonal spices that are about to infiltrate our lives as we head into autumn.

Less holiday-forward than my Apple Cider Mule or Cranberry Moscow Mule, this vodka recipe is the perfect way to say sayonara to summer and before drinking your weight in pumpkin cocktails.

Adding fresh lime juice to a cocktail in a copper mug.

    Add fresh lime juice.

Measuring vanilla simple syrup in a measuring jigger.

    Add the vanilla simple syrup.

Woman adding ginger beer to a copper mug mule.

    Top with ginger beer.

Use a bar spoon to give it a quick stir. Garnish with a lime wheel.

Hint: You don’t have to use a copper mug but they are designed to keep drinks chilled and delicious. The handle saves your hand from freezing while keeping your Vanilla Mule super refreshing.

    Substitutions

    • Non-Alcoholic – Follow my recipe for a Moscow Mule Mocktail and use the vanilla simple syrup in place of the regular simple syrup.
    • Time-Saving Method – If you don’t want to take the time to make the vanilla simple syrup, you can use store-bought simple syrup (or make my cheater simple syrup for one cocktail) and add a 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

    Variations

Feel free to change up the recipe to make it fit your flavor preferences.

    • Liquor – You don’t have to stick to vodka. Bourbon, whisky, and even spiced rum would also be delicious in a Vanilla Mule.
    • Add spices – Make this even more delicious with a Vanilla Cinnamon Simple Syrup.
    • Flavored Vodka – Add more layers of flavor with flavored vodka. Something like vanilla vodka or an apple vodka would be super tasty!

    Top tip

    • Don’t fill up the copper mug all the way to the top. You only want to add between 3-4 ounces to keep the flavors balanced.
    • A few dashes of bitters can help perfectly finish the cocktail if you feel like it needs a little bit more dimension. The spices pair really well with the vanilla syrup.
    • Do not use bottled lime juice. Fresh is needed to give this cocktail the brightness it needs!
