Cocktails with Vodka are Delicious!
Martinis, Moscow Mules, Vodka Soda. There are so many great drinks that can be made with vodka! Vodka pairs with just about any fruit juice, works with milk-based cocktails and can be done as a shot (so I’ve heard – I would only try this in a Russian bar where I had to wear a fur coat and go into a freezer to do it.).

Which Vodka is the Best?
I’m pretty sure the first bottle of alcohol I bought when I turned 21 was vodka. But if you don’t know about vodka, it can be super overwhelming with how many options there are.
I reached for Skyy since I knew of their marketing. I can clearly remember that blue bottle sitting in my freezer for years because I really didn’t know what to do with it!
Unless you drink often, finishing a bottle of liquor can be slow going. My suggestion is to try different vodkas when you are out at bars to see if there is one that you like better than another.
Price point also comes into play. I never buy top of the line liquor (especially if it’s being mixed with something else!!) but I also usually skip the bottom shelf where the lower priced liquor is kept.

And 0 carbs (hey Keto folks – this is great news!). Plain vodka is made up of water and alcohol. It is not a source of vitamins or fiber or anything good for that matter.
Calories in Vodka
There are about 64 calories for every 1 ounce of vodka (this can vary by proof and a few other factors) according to the US Department of Agriculture.
How Does Vodka Affect Weight Loss?
These calories are just calories – sometimes referred to as “empty calories” (you know, not like a “good fat” like avocados). Find out more vodka facts here. And the minute you add vodka to a mixer you are adding all kinds of sugars and even more calories. Calories from protein would keep your stomach feeling full. And let’s be honest. The more you drink the less willpower you have in terms of snacking, etc.
How is Vodka Served
I prefer my vodka served in Moscow Mule Recipes. It seems to depend on what part of the world you are from as to how you drink your vodka. Many in the United States enjoy a vodka martini, maybe with a little vermouth. Others like it with a splash of cranberry or with a little tonic.
It is a huge generalization to say that Russians prefer to drink it straight, like a shot. But I think that the consensus for places that are known for their vodka production is that you drink is slightly (or a lot) chilled and it can be sipped or done as a shot. It is never mixed with anything else. Check out this article on Esquire on How to Drink Vodka.
