What you need to make a Pumpkin Spice Mule.

I used my favorite vodka and ginger beer for this cocktail, but you can use whatever you like or have on hand.

I love to use a little vanilla in my cocktail recipes. It’s such a good way to add a subtle flavor that helps to balance out the spices and fresh lime juice. And, of course, it pairs deliciously with canned pumpkin

I don’t love a sweet cocktail, but this did need the littlest bit of Agave. The canned pumpkin is not sweetened so you need to add just a little.

Of course, as I was getting ready to make this recipe, I realized I didn’t have any more pumpkin pie spice. It wasn’t the end of the world, thank goodness, because you can easily make your own.

It just saves a minute if you already have it in the cupboard. I followed this recipe for homemade pie spice.

You’re going to love this drink! It’s the perfect fall pumpkin cocktail and you can make it your signature drink for your Friendsgiving or any family get-togethers.

Even with the agave, it isn’t too sweet. The ginger beer keeps this refreshing. And the pumpkin flavor is subtle so it’s not like you are drinking a slice of pie. The vanilla vibes are good. Real good.

Tips and Tricks

  • A cute copper mug completes this Pumpkin Spice Mule as it not only looks pretty, but will help keep the cocktail cold. It’s the best color for this time of year! These would make a great hostess gift idea! I love this smooth, straight kind but there are so many different styles to choose from!
  • You could use vanilla vodka if you prefer. I would leave out the vanilla extract if you do this to make the cocktail, taste it and see if you want to add any extra.
  • If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, you can add more sweetener or even use a bit of pumpkin coffee syrup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for agave syrup?

If you don’t have agave syrup, you could also use simple syrup if you have that instead. And because of the warm fall flavors, you could even use honey or maple syrup.

What can I use instead of ginger beer in my Moscow mule?

In my opinion, there is not a suitable substitute for ginger beer. Ginger ale has way less ginger flavor and is much sweeter. You can use it, but I might add some extra powdered ginger or even muddle fresh ginger slices in the cocktail.

Do I have to use a copper mug?

You don’t have to serve this cocktail in a copper mug. It has a really lovely orange color that everyone should see. BUT. Copper mugs are made specifically to keep drinks cold. It adds to the overall experience of sipping the cocktail and it is delightful.
