This eggnog with Fireball is a great drink to sip slowly as it’s thick and rich and on the sweeter side. It would be a great drink idea for trimming the tree, writing out Christmas cards or even wrapping presents.

It takes just a minute to put together this Fireball nog and feels just right when the weather cools down. You can browse even more Fireball Cocktails here.

While I prefer to keep my home bar small and not buy a ton of specialty ingredients or flavored liqueurs, I always have Fireball on hand. Fireball is a great way to winterize cocktails!

It’s fun in mixed drinks, can be used for shots (I do a shot, like, once a year), but it’s also super tasty in other types of recipes! My Fireball Cupcakes are one of my favorite dessert recipes. And the only pumpkin pie I’ll eat is my Fireball Pumpkin Pie.

I prefer to buy my spices from Savory Spice Shop. I happened upon a store years ago and fell in love with the quality of the spices. I’ve used this spiced sugar blend in my coffee for years. It adds the perfect touch of spices.

Here, I use it for rimming the cocktail glass. It’s a great way to serve this Fireball Eggnog. And there’s nothing like fresh nutmeg! Grated on top of the drink, it’s the first thing you experience as you bring the glass to your lips. YUM!

Although I used the Southern Comfort brand of Eggnog, it doesn’t have alcohol in it.

Start by rimming the glass. You do not have to do this step, but it is a tasty and pretty way to present a cocktail.

You can see a full tutorial of how to rim a glass here, but basically, you wet the rim of the glass (typically you use a little fresh lime but since there is no lime in this recipe, you can dip the edge in water or a little bit of simple syrup).

Then dip the wet edge into the spiced sugar on a small plate. I don’t usually do the full glass. That is totally up to you.

And shake well.

Step 5

Place fresh ice in the prepared cocktail glass. Here I used a large block of ice. Since the eggnog is cold and the cocktail has been shaken with ice, it shouldn’t melt too quickly.

The large ice looks cool, but you can certainly use regular ice.

Step 6

Strain the Fireball and Eggnog into the glass.

Hint: The Fireball is very bold. It can overpower the eggnog flavor pretty easily. Be sure to start with 1 ounce of Fireball and add more if you prefer the flavor.

You can also easily turn this into a Fireball Eggnog Shot. Just use a ratio of 2 parts Eggnog to 1 part Fireball.

If you want the shot to be more full of alcohol, you can do 2 parts Fireball to 1 part Eggnog but you really won’t taste the eggnog too much.

Equipment

I was sent a new cocktail shaker recently and got to try it out with this recipe. This is the Elevated Craft Cocktail Shaker. It’s ergonomically designed and has the capacity to measure up to 6 ounces in the top of the shaker.

I really loved it and think it’s a great idea for any home bartender. Learn more here.

Variations

This 2-ingredient Fireball Eggnog cocktail is super straightforward. There are a few ways you can jazz it up although I prefer it this way since you lose the eggnog flavor pretty easily.

  • Bailey’s – adding some Bailey’s Irish Cream pumps up the creaminess of this drink and smooths out the cinnamon whiskey.
  • Cointreau – adding a little bit of orange liqueur seems to bring out the cinnamon flavor a little.
  • Amaretto – You can add 1/2 – 3/4 ounces of amaretto (almond liqueur) but I didn’t love the end result. I have the world’s cheapest amaretto and have had it for years. I feel like it could be past its prime.
  • Spicy – While the Fireball has tons of cinnamon flavor, it doesn’t have a ton of actual heat. If you wanted to make this a little spicier, you could add 1/8 tsp of cayenne pepper which should bring some heat to your throat as you swallow.

Top Tip

  • Be sure to mind the ratios, unless you don’t care about getting the full eggnog flavor.
  • My sister-in-law was telling me about some holiday-flavored liqueurs from Trader Joes. They have an eggnog flavor. If you have it, add an ounce to this to enhance the eggnog flavor.
  • I’m sure you can use an eggnog alternative like those made with almond milk, but you will lose the creaminess. And I’m not sure how bold the flavors are. You may need to taste first and adjust the amount of Fireball as needed.
  • Fireball now makes their own premade Fireball Eggnog. Look for it in stores. I’ve heard that Walmart carries it. Its all made for you and you just need to pour it in a glass and enjoy. I have not tried it yet so I can’t speak to the flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make your own eggnog?

Yes. If you prefer to make your own eggnog from scratch you totally can.

Can you save leftovers?

I wouldn’t keep any leftovers. I would make this a drink at a time and keep the two ingredients separate.
