Why I love this fall Mule recipe

You know I’m a sucker for a good Moscow Mule variation, and I think this Caramel Moscow Mule recipe is just the thing for fall! How could a salted caramel cocktail not taste next-level??

It all started with a bottle of caramel vodka and a brainstorming session to decide which caramel vodka drink first I should make first. A Salted Caramel Moscow Mule was the obvious choice!

The spicy ginger beer offsets the sweetness of the caramel, the flavor of which is boosted with the flavored vodka and stopped from being too sweet with a splash of sparkling water.

And besides, I needed an excuse to put the idea for a salted caramel cocktail glass rim I’ve had for a while into action! I’m so pleased with the results of this easy cocktail recipe. Just look how fun and fancy it looks!

I just know you’re going to love this easy caramel vodka cocktail this fall!

Don’t have Copper Mugs yet?

Copper Mugs are great for all kinds of cocktails, not just Moscow Mules!

This is everything you need to make a Caramel Moscow Mule!

Here’s what you need to make a Salted Caramel Moscow Mule:

I’m using Smirnoff’s Kissed Caramel Caramel Vodka at the moment as I think it has a great flavor but if you already have a caramel vodka to hand use that instead. Or, if you can’t find a bottle you can always substitute vodka and stir a little store-bought caramel sauce into the drink to match that caramel flavor.

I pretty much always have club soda on hand so that is what I use, but sparkling water works too. I think ginger beer is classic in a Mule and will cut the sweetness of the caramel in this drink. Ginger Ale might be a little too sweet.

Store-bought salted caramel sauce is fine for rimming the glass here, but I’m not going to stop you making your own if that’s your thing!

Variations

  • Use cinnamon vodka – Smirnoff also make a great cinnamon vodka which would add more fall vibes to this drink – keep the caramel flavor by adding a little more syrup at the end.
  • Make an apple version – Caramel Apple Vodka and a fresh apple garnish, and sparkling apple cider in place of the ginger beer would be delicious here too!
  • Add lemon juice – Missing that citrusy hit of a regular Moscow Mule? Lime and salted caramel are not a good combo – yuck! – but a squeeze of fresh lemon juice will add back in that refreshing note.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to make the caramel sugar rim?

No, but I think it is what makes this cocktail next-level! Promise me you’ll try making it at least once.

Do you have any more garnish ideas?

You see this pineapple chunk and cocktail cherry cocktail stick garnish I made for my Spiced Rum and Sparkling Wine Cocktail? I think the same thing would work really well with a piece of caramel (half a Werther’s soft caramel is great for this!) between two pieces of crystallized ginger here.
