It seems like my love of tequila has carried over from last summer. Which carried over from the summer before that. While I love a traditional margarita, I think it's such a versatile drink and can turn in to something completely new with the addition of just one or two ingredients. Like this watermelon margarita recipe. By adding watermelon and mint it really freshens it up and gives it a whole new vibe. I know some of you out there have bad memories of tequila (like, face down on the floor memories…) but you should give it another try. You're going to love this watermelon margarita!
I find tequila so interesting. It can be very grown up and sophisticated. I'm dying to do a tequila tasting! There are several different varieties and they all have different flavor profiles. Of course there are also many brands to choose from but a) I love the label design on the Casamigos bottles and b) if it's good enough for George Clooney, it's good enough for me. I'd also like to think that because it is also owned by Randy Gerber, Cindy Crawford's husband, that drinking Casamigos will make you beautiful. I know it's not true but it certainly will make everyone else look a little more beautiful after a few drinks! Hey-yo! Casamigos is small-batch, premium tequila with an ultra smooth taste. Man, that makes me want to break open those bottles and sample them this weekend. I'll do it as carefully as possible. Hangovers aren't cute when you have kids…You don't need fancy ingredients for a margarita. But freshness helps! This version only needs watermelon, lime, mint and a little simple syrup if that's your jam. I tend to leave out the sweeteners because I don't like things that are overly sweet. For this recipe, we're using the Reposado tequila.
Muddling the watermelon and mint breaks down the fruit and releases the flavors. The watermelon gives this drink its bright, fun color and natural sweetness.
YUM! This might just be your new favorite margarita recipe.
- 1 1/2 parts Reposado Tequila, preferably Casamigos
- 3/4 parts fresh lime
- 4 parts muddled watermelon
- 1/2 part simple syrup, you can leave this out if you prefer!
- 6-7 mint leaves
- In a shaker, muddle mint and watermelon.
- Add the rest of the ingredients, shake well and strain over fresh ice.
- Garnish with lime and mint.
You're really going to like this watermelon margarita recipe. It's the perfect drink for a warm afternoon. I'm going to make it my mission to make margarita moments all summer long. It's the perfect thing to force you away from whatever mundane life tasks you are worried about and just sit back and enjoy. Maybe do a little daydreaming about hanging out on a beach in Malibu with George sipping some tequila. Who's with me?
Casamigos provided me with tequila and the recipe. Thank you for supporting the brands that allow me to continue running Cupcakes and Cutlery. I love my job!
