With just 5 ingredients, this Tequila Mojito is totally refreshing and full of that fresh mint and lime flavor you love. Using Patron instead of rum puts a tasty twist on a classic cocktail recipe that you are going to want (and NEED to) make at home.

A cocktail glass with gold accents and a blue straw on a table next to a bottle of Patron tequila.

If you love tequila cocktails, this delicious tequila mojito is one you need to try this weekend!

    Why this recipe works

A good mojito can change everything, amIright? All that fresh mint and lime! Yum! But I'm a much bigger fan of tequila than I am of rum. This Patron Mojito Recipe is a great compromise.

If tequila is your liquor of choice, but your sick of a skinny margarita, this cocktail is for you! I like to use silver or Blanco tequila for this recipe.

Aside from some simple muddling, a Tequila Mojito is a super easy cocktail to make. You don't even need a cocktail shaker.

From start to finish, this mojito with tequila can be ready in 5 minutes and you'll be able to sip and smell this delightful drink and pretend you are on a tropical beach vacation somewhere.

I like the flavors of a mojito so much that I've created several versions. Try a Coke-jito. t's fresh lime and mint with coke and it's out of this world! And then try a Vodka Mojito, a Passion Fruit Vodka Mojito, and an Apple Juice Mojito.

    Ingredient notes

Labeled ingredients to make a mojito with tequila.

I felt really bad using Patron in this mixed drink recipe. I mean, it's so tasty on its own. But it's what I had on hand and I knew the drink would be extra delicious.

You can use any brand of tequila that you have. I never suggest you use anything super high end when you are using in a mixed drink but it shouldn't be like straight gasoline either.

There are a bunch of ways to make a mojito but this recipe is pretty classic. Some call for sugar, while I am using simple syrup to keep things easy and to make sure all their isn't any sugar graininess. (Or even this cheater simple syrup if I'm pressed for time).

You can use another type of sweetener, like agave syrup if you like, as that always works really well with tequila.

    Step-by-step instructions

Overhead view of a glass with fresh lime pieces and mint.

A Tequila Mojito is made the same way as a traditional mojito.

To a tall glass add the simple syrup, fresh mint leaves and quartered fresh limes.

Muddle with a wooden muddler to release the juices of the limes and bruise the mint leaves.

An open can of club soda on a table next to a Patron bottle and cocktail glass.

Add ice to the glass. Top with tequila, then club soda.

I can almost smell that mint and lime through the screen! SO GOOD! A Tequila Mojito has a classic flavor combination with tequila undertones. And so refreshing.

    Tips and tricks

    • Don't have a muddler? Use the rounded end of an ice cream scooper! It works really well.
    • For a slightly different flavor you can use a different type of tequila like a reposado or anejo.
    • To make a larger batch of this cocktail you may want to make a mint simple syrup and pre-squeeze lime juice instead of muddling.
    • If you're worried about your Tequila Mojito being too sweet, you can cut down on the amount of simple syrup. Or try using an ounce of Triple Sec instead.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best alcohol for mojitos?

The best alcohol for mojitos is based on your preference! Classically, they are made with rum. But you can use tequila, vodka or whatever you think tastes best!

What is the best tequila to use for a mojito?

I have 3 brands I reach for Patron, Casamigos and Santo. They are also delicious to drink on their own or in other cocktails. Any of these would make an excellent Tequila Mojito.

    Should you shake a mojito?

Because you build the drink in a glass, you do not need to shake it. The ingredients are chilled enough when poured over the ice. And you never shake a drink with anything carbonated in it for fear of a messy kitchen when it reacts to the motion.

A cocktail glass on a napkin on a table with mint and lime in a clear liquid with blue bendy straw.

There is something about fresh mint that is at once relaxing and puts you in a vacation-y mood. This Tequila Mojito will help you daydream about that vacation even more!
