This simple 2-ingredient cocktail is a super refreshing twist on a Spanish classic!

Coke and wine is a match made in heaven and I bet you’ve never tried it.

Why this recipe works

With just two ingredients and no cocktail shaker, this Coke and wine cocktail can be made fast and anywhere. It just might be one of the easiest cocktail recipes ever.

I learned about rosé wine and Coke when the Real Housewives of New York took a trip to Mexico during season 12.

Totally drunk, Sonja Morgan orders Coke and Rosé. It sounded crazy. But then I thought about it a minute. Years ago, I learned about the Kalimotxo. It’s a Spanish drink made with equal parts red wine and Coke. This version, with rosé, seems like the perfect twist for summer.

I can’t explain why, but when Coke and wine are mixed together, magic happens. You can taste the cola, and you can taste the wine, but together, they remind me of a less sweet red wine sangria. And it’s kind of similar to a Red Wine Spritzer.

Seriously, this is a must-try! It might not be your favorite way to enjoy rosé wine, but this will, for sure, surprise the heck out of you! Bring this out for your next happy hour!

If Red Bull and vodka isn’t your thing, try this one instead when you need a little caffeine in your cocktail.

What you need to make Coke and rosé.

Coke and rosé are the only 2 ingredients you need. So easy.

I had this smaller bottle of rosé so I used it. But you can use any bottle. A traditional Kaliotxo (sometimes called Calimocho) is often made with inexpensive red wine.

You could probably substitute with Diet Coke but I haven’t tried it. I can’t imagine it would taste all that different.

How to make Coke and Rosé

Overhead shot of a cutting board with a bottle of wine and a coke next to a wine glass.

Step 1

To a wine glass, add equal parts Coke and your favorite pink wine. I didn’t measure it, just eyeballed.

While the classic Kalimotxo is served over ice, I decided to try this as is. And it was tasty! Next time I make it, I will serve it over ice.

It was super sweet, refreshing, somehow fruity and totally drinkable!

Top tips

  • Want to add a little more depth? Add a squeeze of lemon to the drink.
  • Don’t love it with equal parts Coke and wine? Adjust the ratio to suit your taste.
  • This could easily make a fun party drink. Open a 2-liter bottle of Coke and pour half out or into another container. Then add a bottle of rosé to the Coke bottle. Gently mix (remember, it’s carbonated!) and serve with cups!
  • Using a can of coke and can of rosé makes this a fun and portable cocktail to take to the pool or to a hotel.

Frequently asked questions

Can you mix Coke and wine?

YES! Cola is a great mixer. It’s similar to pineapple juice in that it mixes really well with other things, and when mixed, loses the flavor you get when drinking on its own and instead beautifully supports the other ingredients served with it. I love making wine cocktails and turns out wine is a great mixer too.

What is a good rosé to use?

That is the beauty of this recipe! You can use any rosé you want! While I used one that I like to drink on its own, you can use boxed, canned, whatever! It truly doesn’t matter. I like a dry rosé from Provence but you can also use a fruitier rosé made of pinot noir grapes.

Can you use flavored coke?

Maybe. I haven’t tried it but I’m a Cherry Coke lover so I think that would be quite tasty. It would also pair well with rosé. I think Orange and Vanilla Coke could work too.

And Coke makes a great mixer for 2 ingredient cocktails like this super simple Coke and Vodka. You can even use it to make a Coke Cake.
