Best Hangover Supplements to Help You Recover

Text: My favorite hangover supplements above a collage of hangover supplements.

In my opinion, these are the Best Hangover Supplements and tips I've tried to remedy or prevent hangovers before they start. They are essential for cocktail lovers and a must-have for your home bar.

My favorite supplements to prevent hangovers.

These hangover supplements are not cures and I am not a doctor. I'm sharing what I personally use but please make your own decisions about what you take as it may affect your other medication. You may want to speak to your doctor about these before using.

    Hangovers are the worst

I get horrible hangovers. And let's face it, the older we get the less our body can take a good party.

I love a good cocktail. That's no secret. What I don't love is feeling like garbage the next day.

That doesn't mean I'm giving up my favorite drinks. This means I need a good hangover supplement or two to help me function after a night with a few drinks.

Herbal remedies for a hangover can seem a little woo-woo, but there are a few that I actually love and find work well for me. When paired with lots of water and sometimes a cheeseburger, you'll feel like yourself in no time.

Below, you'll find a list of the best hangover supplements I've tried. I wouldn't recommend them if I didn't use them myself!

NOTE: All of these supplements should be paired with responsible drinking. These are designed to help you recover but they are not miracle workers.

    Supplements to Help a Hangover

I'm going to be totally honest and say that I can't escape a hangover 100% of the time.

It has to do with so many factors, like how much food you've eaten and when, the amount of water you're consuming, and for me, my allergies play a huge role.

These are my tried and true hangover supplements. These are the ones that go with me on trips and that I keep in the drawer next to my bar spoons.

But every once in a while, I still have a wicked hangover. So please take this all with a grain of salt.

    Best Hangover Pills

A small clear jar of Cheers Restore on a marble surface.

These Cheers Restore pills were originally seen on Shark Tank and I've been using them for years. The company says they will make you feel at least 50% the next day.

I take 3 of them before I go to bed after indulging in a night of drinks along with lots of water. Often I will still end up with a bit of a headache, but I can do a headache.

When I grabbed the link from Amazon, it told me I've ordered these 8 times. So you know I think they are great!

They have a few other products and I just ordered the Relief pills to pair with Restore. Those are designed to take the next morning and I'll let you know how they work once I've tried them a few times.

The Relief pills are not available on Amazon but I just ordered from their site this morning and I've already gotten a shipping notification.

I have also used their Hydrate product in the past and liked it. I don't love electrolyte drinks so this isn't my favorite supplement to reach for but I do feel like I felt better after using it.

    Best Wearable Wellness Patch

The Good Patch Rescue Patch on a marble surface.

The Good Patch Rescue Patch is a supplement you wear! Stick a patch on before the fun begins or after it ends to help prevent a hangover the next day.

It's made with DHM, Green Tea, and Vitamin B1. They are also vegan, paraben free and made without latex.

I usually put mine on the inside of my wrist before I go to bed and let it do its work while I sleep. The ingredients are released over 8-12 hours so it is a great option.

This is a newer supplement to me. I was curious about patch supplements so I bought them. Amazon says I've bought them 3 times so far.

Again, I may end up with a bit of a headache (which I am prone to get) but the other things like nausea, shakes and overall feeling unwell don't happen. Or if they do, it's tolerable and I am functional which is sometimes all you can ask for.

They also have other patches for sleep, pain relief and more that I haven't tried yet.

    Best Chewable

A packet of Zaca chewable tablets for hydration and recovery.

Zaca's Hydration and Recovery Chewable is made with Japanese raisin, l-alanyl-l glutamine, l-glutathione, and prickly pear, and has more essentials than a sports drink!

This has been my go-to hangover supplement for years. Amazon says I've bought them 17 times.

I love that the packets are small enough to fit in my purse and I can take them with me on a night out to use after a few drinks but before I head home. And I also consider these a travel essential.

I make sure to take these with me when we visit somewhere that is high altitude. They help with hydration and I'll take them even if I'm not drinking.

I love the Zaca supplement so much that I dedicated an entire post to it. Make sure you read it.

    Tips

    1. Hydrate well

Staying hydrated will help so much! Make sure you drink plenty of water during and after drinking. It's not a cure, but it will help. I try to enjoy one glass of water between each cocktail, especially if it's a day drinking situation.

And you don't need to wait until you start drinking to have water. If you know you'll be enjoying cocktails, start early! Drink water all day. And drink more the next morning.

    2. Eat something

Do not start with an empty stomach! Drinking on an empty stomach causes your body to metabolize the alcohol differently and may make you "feel" the effects more.

At the very least grab some bread, but I always try to have some protein and stay away from sweets.

    3. Pace yourself

To help stave off a hangover, it could be as simple as pacing yourself. Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy sipping your cocktail and take time between cocktails too.

    4. Stick with mocktails

OK, this seems like cheating but it is a great solution if you absolutely can't have a hangover the next day. I have a variety of mocktail recipes you'll love.

    Drink responsibly

I didn't write this article to help you drink your face off and not feel the effects. I wrote this to help you feel better after a few drinks if you suffer from terrible hangovers as I do.

With teenagers at home, I take any opportunity I can to teach them about safe drinking. Not only do they need to know how the body handles alcohol, but they need to know that a hangover is not an excuse to miss work or other important events.

If you would like to learn more about responsible drinking and educating your kids please visit Responsibility.org.

And I really love the way The College Health Guide breaks down drinking in an understandable way for college-age kids! So helpful!

A highball glass filled with a cocktail on a marble cutting board next to a bottle of hangover supplements and a Rescue Patch.

Whichever herbal remedy for hangovers you choose, you can enjoy yourself without feeling awful the morning after. One or more of these supplements could help. Just find the one that works best for you.

Make sure you don’t lose this list of herbal remedies for hangovers by saving it for later! Also, for more recipes and ideas make sure you’re following me on Pinterest, Instagram, and like my page on Facebook.
