What you need to make a pumpkin spiced rum cocktail.

I’m going to be honest. I don’t know a ton about rum. I typically use spiced rum because I love all the extra cinnamon and nutmeg notes. I asked for a rum recommendation from a local small liquor store and they recommended this brand, Cruzan.

It’s SO good. Way better than the usual white rum. It makes me want to experiment more with this bottle. Seriously go find it. It’s the Cruzan Aged Light Rum.

Fresh lime helps to balance this drink and it’s a must. Don’t use bottled lime juice if you can help it.

This Hipstirs Pumpkin Spice Syrup is a fun seasonal simple syrup to keep on hand. To me, it doesn’t taste exactly like pumpkin but has all the fall taste you expect with notes of cinnamon etc.

To really bring in the pumpkin flavor add a little pumpkin puree. It’s easy to have a can on hand during the season. Plus there are lots of cocktails you can make with canned pumpkin.

I added the pumpkin pie spice and vanilla to help round out the recipe and get a nice balanced drink.

Tasting Notes

Pureed pumpkin is a little bit savory but still has sweet notes. But I think you need it, along with the pumpkin spice syrup, to make it balanced. A dash of vanilla and some pumpkin pie spice adds a nice touch without making it taste too much like pie.

This rum is gorgeous. I’m not sure how regular white rum will play with this recipe. I suggest if you are making this for friends and family, do a quick test run to get your flavors right based on the ingredients that you have.

Variations

  • Maple – Add a bit maple syrup across the top of your daiquiri for a little extra sweetness and a cozy fall vibe.
  • Spiced Rum – Use spiced rum instead of regular rum or aged rum. You’ll get even more of those yummy seasonal flavors which would be delish in a pumpkin spice daiquiri.
  • Graham Crust – Make this drink more like a pie, skip the cinnamon sugar rim and use crushed graham cracker instead.

Tips

If you don’t want to use the Hipstirs Pumpkin Spice Syrup, you can still make this cocktail. Use regular simple syrup (homemade or store-bought) plus a few dashes of bitters.

If you use another brand of Pumpkin Spice Syrup, you’ll need to taste and adjust the recipe as they are all slightly different.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the proper way to serve a daiquiri?

To serve a daiquiri, strain the prepared daiquiri into the glass (a coupe or other short glass). You can garnish it with a lime wheel or a sprinkle of cinnamon for an extra touch of flair. You can use a chilled glass but I never have the time or energy to do that. Serve it immediately while it’s perfectly chilled and ready to sip!

Can you make your own pumpkin spice syrup?

While I like the Hipstirs Pumpkin Spice Syrup, you can make your own at home. It’s equal parts canned pumpkin puree, brown sugar, and water heated in a saucepan. You can add spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves to taste. Simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Strain to remove any solids, and you’ve got homemade pumpkin spice syrup.

Can I make this a mocktail?

Yes, you can turn this pumpkin spice daiquiri into a mocktail by leaving out the rum. Just use a little bit more pumpkin puree.

How can I garnish the pumpkin daiquiri?

Popular options for garnishing this pumpkin and rum cocktail include a cinnamon stick, a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or nutmeg, a lime wheel, or even a dusting of pumpkin pie spice.

This Pumpkin Spice Daiquiri is full of flavor and great for all your fall and holiday entertaining!
