Why this recipe works

This is a classic gin fizz recipe but with a twist!

St Germain – my favorite French elderflower liquor – is such a versatile ingredient that is perfect for adding a bit of floral flavor and sweetness to cocktails. It turns a simple gin fizz into something extra special!

This St Germain Elderflower Gin Fizz recipe is super refreshing and slightly herbal. It has a light elderflower flavor but it is subtle.

Topping the drink up with soda softens the gin a little which is great if you are just starting our with gin cocktails.

Sometimes you end up with a bottle of St Germain because of a simple St Germain Champagne cocktail, but there is so much more you can do with it. Browse all of my St. Germain Cocktail recipes.

Here’s what you need to make an easy St Germain cocktail.

Here’s what you need to make the perfect St Germain Gin Fizz:

St Germain is my go-to elderflower liqueur as it is the easiest to get hold of, but if you have another on your bar instead used that!

I think fresh lime juice is best in this recipe as you can really taste it in the final drink making it super refreshing but if you only have Rose’s Lime Cordial you could try using that instead.

I’m using this pretty botanical bottle of Silent Pool Gin (they sent me a bottle to make cocktails with) at the moment as I really love the botanical flavors in gin-foward drinks. Whichever bottle you’ve got open at the moment will work fine too.

Make sure you use a soda water with plenty of fizz like LaCroix rather than a sparkling water or there won’t be enough fizz in your drink!

Step 4

Strain into a glass with fresh ice.

I like to use a large ice cube which causes less dilution as it melts and looks cute. Very important. ;)

Variations

  • Use cucumber soda – add a refreshing cucumber element to this elderflower gin fizz by topping it up with cucumber soda, or even muddling a few cucumber slices in the bottom of the cocktail shaker with the St Germain and gin before adding the ice.
  • Add herbsfresh thyme would go really well in this drink, either as a garnish or muddled in the cocktail shaker.
  • Sub in fresh lemon – lemon also goes really well with gin and St Germain so add a twist to this drink by switching out the lime juice for lemon. Make it a Silver Fizz Cocktail by also adding a dash of simple syrup and an egg white to the cocktail shaker.
  • Add bitters – I’m a firm believer that a dash of your favorite cocktail bitters instantly improves almost any drink!

Frequently Asked Questions

What sort of glass should I serve Elderflower Gin Fizz in?

I’d recommend a short cocktail glass, otherwise topping with soda water your drink will become too diluted.

Can I use a different spirit instead of the gin?

Well, it would not be a gin fizz if you replaced the gin but vodka would also work in this recipe to make a delicious drink!

Can I reduce the alcohol in this cocktail?

An elderflower syrup for the St Germain or a 0% gin are good substitutions for a lighter drink, but I’d recommend only trying one of these rather than both at once!
