Not sure what to mix with that bottle of St Germain gathering dust on your bar table? Club soda is the easiest answer to the question of what to mix with St Germain?

Well, the easiest drink answer. You should totally also use it to make Elderflower Cupcakes.

I love this simple, fizzy cocktail with St Germain for the touch of sweetness it brings to your at-home happy hour. And because it is low alcohol it’s great for day drinking by the pool.

And, it is utterly foolproof with no need for any special equipment like a cocktail shaker. Just pour, stir and enjoy!

Ingredients

Ingredients for a St Germain and Soda.
Only two ingredients are needed for this refreshing St Germain and Soda recipe.

Here’s what you need to make this easy St Germain drink:

I used regular soda water here as I really wanted to enjoy the flavor of the St Germain, but both lemon and cucumber go well with elderflower so I bet different soda flavors would be delicious here.

Which means lemon would be a good substitute for the orange garnish. Or you could just drink it plain if you’ve not been to the grocery store in a while.

Variations

  • Cucumber – cucumber pairs really well with elderflower so a few slices or ribbons made with a vegetable peeler added to the glass would take this cocktail to the next level.
  • Herbs – fresh herbs like basil, thyme and rosemary would add a beautiful aroma garnishing this elderflower soda. Bash the sprigs a little between your palms before adding them to your drink to help release their aromas.
  • Citrus – slices of lemon or lime would work well here instead of the orange. To add a little more acidity to your drink squeeze in a little of the citrus juice before stirring the drink.
  • Flavored Water – There are tons of tasty flavored sparkling water options on the market. Try one that would pair well with the floral taste of the liqueur.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much alcohol is in this drink?

St Germain is considered a cordial and is 20%ABV. This drink is relatively lower alcohol (especially when compared to a gimlet or similar drinks).

Is this a St Germain Spritz?

No, a St Germain Spritz is made of St Germain, Prosecco and soda water. This is a lighter version made without the Prosecco, but feel free to add some if you want to!

Do the ingredients need to be chilled before making this drink?

You don’t need to keep St Germain in the fridge but it will discolor a little in the bottle with age so if you have the space refrigerating it will help it stay looking fresh. Chilled soda is best here for a super refreshing drink.
