Tips
- Serve burrata at room temperature for the best texture.
- Look for burrata at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and better (more gourmet) grocery stores. I can find it on Amazon Fresh also.
- The closest option, if you can’t find burrata, is fresh mozzarella. Look for one that is packed in water. It will not have the extra creamy center but the flavor is most similar.
- If you’re planning to serve it on pizza, put it on after the pizza has been cooked while it’s still hot. It will become perfectly melty on all of the other toppings.
Variations
You can also buy Truffle Burrata cheese. It has that gorgeous truffle flavor most people love and you can use that in place of the plain version in most recipes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Burrata is a rich Italian cheese made with cow’s milk. A creamy center is wrapped in mozzarella.
Burrata looks a lot like mozzarella from the outside because that is what the exterior is made of. The center, however, is filled with stracciatella (made from leftover parts of the mozzarella production and cream).
