There is just something about the mix of slightly sweet, slightly spicy ginger beer and zingy, refreshing fresh lime served over ice that makes whatever you mix it with sing.

Gin is packed with botanical, herbal and floral notes making it a great pairing with the hearty ginger beer! Even if you aren’t a huge gin fan, you will like this drink too.

If you love a good gin cocktail, you HAVE to try this Gin Mule recipe!

Ingredients

You only need three ingredients to make a Gin Moscow Mule!

Here’s what you need to make this Gin Mule recipe:

  • gin
  • lime
  • ginger beer

This version of a Moscow Mule with Gin is such a simple drink, I don’t want to get too specific with your ingredients except to tell you to grab your favorite gin, favorite ginger beer and a fresh lime.

I’m always asked if you can use Rose’s Lime in place of fresh lime in drinks. I’d not recommend it here as it is the freshness of the lime that really makes this drink special. Also, it will add too much sweetness alongside what is already in the ginger beer.

Variations

  • Use flavored gin – as long as the flavors work with lime and ginger, flavored gins are a great way to add another element to this simple Gin Mule!
  • Add fresh mint – for a slightly herbal flavor, muddle fresh mint leaves in the bottom of the glass with the gin before adding the ice. Then garnish with a fresh mint sprig! Add a splash of simple syrup too and you’ll have made a classic Gin-Gin Mule.
  • Go low – there are so many great non-alcoholic gin options out there now you can easily make this cocktail 0% by using one. I love the Ritual Zero Proof Gin alternative!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use ginger ale instead of ginger beer?

Ginger ale is a lot sweeter than ginger beer, so only do this if you like sweeter drinks! You may also want to add a bit more lime to balance things out a bit more.

Is a copper mug required?

No, but if you love a good Moscow Mule I’d recommend investing in a set – not only do they look super pretty but it helps keep the drink frosty and cold for a better flavor.
