I'll be honest. At first, the idea of a red wine smoothie was a novelty. Inspired by The Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix, I thought I'd make this funny post. Turns out THIS WINE SMOOTHIE IS DELICIOUS! For serious. I love wine cocktails and this blended beverage is perfect for warm weather!
This post is written in partnership with Netflix. As part of the #StreamTeam I get to create content stemmed from my love of television and it's freaking awesome.
Are You Watching The Santa Clarita Diet?
Have you seen The Santa Clarita diet yet?? It's an original Netflix show starring Drew Barrymore and my boo, Timothy Olyphant. It's gory and funny and full of heart. Which is kind of weird mix. The premise of the show is that Drew's character comes down with a virus that basically makes her a zombie.
And so, to eat, she must eat humans. Gross, right. But so super funny at the same time! This show is not for everybody. I tried to get my mom to watch it and she called and said, “I was fine. Until she ate that guys fingers…” It's so clever and well written and the acting is fantastic.
There is lots of blood, etc. but I feel like it's so over the top that it takes away a little of the gross factor. But I might just be desensitized after watching 3 seasons of American Horror Story…
In one of the episodes, Drew is out speed walking with the neighbors and carrying a meat (human) smoothie. They have no idea about her secret and no idea that she is, in fact, consuming a person, during their walk and chat.
So while I have no plans to blend up a neighbor, I did try to think if there was a way that I could work a little secret into a smoothie. Thus, the wine smoothie was born.
This Wine Smoothie is a Delicious Cocktail Idea!
For this adult smoothie, you need a great bottle of red wine. I love the wine on Winc (my favorite wine club). A red wine that is full of red fruit and berry flavors is the perfect base for this berry smoothie.
A small amount of greek yogurt helps to tone down the bite from the wine and berries and the small amount of honey brings out the fruit flavors in a nice, mellow way. Open up that bottle of red.
Add it to your blender or individual sized smoothie vessel.
Add your frozen mixed berries.
Greek yogurt…I'm learning to love it…
A wee bit of honey.
Blend that aaaalllllllll up.
Pour in to your favorite on-the-go smoothie cup. Your friends will NEVER know!
This red wine smoothie is so easy to make. It's full of healthy fruit and protein filled greek yogurt. And yes, a little wine.
I was not expecting much out of this smoothie. BUT IT IS DELICIOUS! I'm not even a huge red wine fan.
The berries and just a touch of sweetness from the honey were insanely good. I'm not suggesting you make one of these every day, but there are days, like Mondays, when a red wine smoothie would really help you out.
This smoothie with red wine is the perfect thing for your next girl's getaway. I feel like it's the perfect pre or post-hike beverage (if that's the kind of thing you do on a girl's trip. I prefer to sleep).
Check out The Santa Clarita Diet now! What are you watching on Netflix right now?? I literally had to put my life on pause to finish the first season of Quantico. I was hooked.
And I kept thinking there was just one more episode…But I'm done now I'm done and I am back to being a productive(ish) citizen…until the next season comes out…
Maybe you don't want wine in your smoothie, and that's ok.
