Let’s make this tasty blackberry smoothie recipe.

Why You’ll Love this Blackberry Oat Smoothie

A blackberry smoothie with yogurt and oats has protein and fiber which helps to keep you full longer. The fresh fruit and a little honey add just the right amount of sweetness to make this a breakfast idea you’ll want to start every day with.

Smoothies are a great way to work fresh fruit and veggies into your daily diet. Because they are raw, you get lots of great nutrients. And you almost can’t ruin this smoothie, so if you aren’t one to follow a recipe, just add the ingredients you like, and blend well. Foolproof!

I love to include oats in my smoothies. I think it helps to fill me up a little bit more than a standard fruit-based smoothie. If you are careful with each ingredient, a smoothie can be healthy for you. If you aren’t careful, however, you can get as much fat and sugar and bad stuff as a cheeseburger.

There are lots of great things about blackberries. Their color is dark, moody and gorgeous. Their flavor is delicate and sweet and the seeds are not nearly as obnoxious as the raspberry. They are also high in Vitamin C and high in antioxidants.

I decided to pair the blackberry with fresh ginger because ginger is also full of antioxidants, has other anti-aging properties and also helps nutrients absorb into the body. Plus, it’s spicy and I love that bit of heat paired with tangy yogurt.

Ingredients

Blackberry and ginger smoothies are a great healthy breakfast idea!
What you need to make a blackberry yogurt smoothie.
  • Blackberries
  • Yogurt
  • Milk
  • Oats
  • Ginger
  • Honey

Blackberries are one of our favorite berries to eat in our family so we usually always have them on hand. But you can substitute any berry you like for this recipe.

We use whole milk in our blackberry smoothies but you can use whatever type of milk or milk alternative you want.

Fresh ginger is easy to keep on hand in the freezer but you can use powdered if that is all you have. Or leave it out if you don’t want it in your smoothie.

How to Make a Blackberry Smoothie

  1. Add the blackberries, oats, ginger, milk, yogurt and honey to the jar of a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Add more honey or spices to suit your taste preferences.
Did you know healthy skin can come from a smoothie? This blackberry ginger oat smoothie can help your skin from the inside, out! (ad) #Aveeno

A blackberry smoothie is the perfect way to start the morning! Start your day off right with a healthy smoothie, you know, to make yourself feel better for all the fries you will probably end up eating later…

Tips

I’m careful with how much sugar, even natural, that I put in my smoothies. I sometimes add a little honey, but it’s up to you how much you use it. If you need a bit to be able to enjoy the smoothie, by all means, add it!

Also, you can add spices to the smoothie to change it up. Sometimes I’ll add a little cinnamon (which also has health benefits) or cloves, etc. Look for things that have lots of flavor, but don’t add many calories, fats or sugars and you are on your way to a good-for-you smoothie.

If you don’t like or tolerate milk and dairy products, you can use milk alternatives and dairy-free yogurt alternatives.
