    Why This Recipe Works

Making your own beer whipped cream is a super simple and fun way to sprinkle in flavor magic. This recipe is perfect for dessert lovers who love trying alcohol-infused recipes or like taking basic recipes and adding a little more pizazz.

This alcohol-infused whipped cream is made easy with a stand mixer. And you don’t need any expert-level kitchen skills to get this right.

If you haven’t yet tried Guinness Whipped Cream, you need to and you’ll realize that it’s way easier than it seems.

In just a few minutes you can create tasty cream that adds the perfect sweet touch to Beer Brownies, cakes and any other chocolate dessert (like a Chocolate Mayo Cake. YUM!)

    What does Guinness taste like

Guinness is a dark stout beer that has a malty taste. It has notes of chocolate and coffee which make it perfect for use in baked goods and flavored whipped cream.

This flavored whipped cream also has vanilla bean to give it even more sweetness and another layer of flavor.

This flavored whipped cream should be a requirement for any dad-focused, beer-loving, St. Patrick’s Day celebrating. And it’s ideal for any football gathering.

    Ingredient Notes

Labeled ingredients for making beer whipped cream on a counter.

Heavy cream and heavy whipping cream are pretty much the same things. Heavy cream whips up a little bit better but either can be used.

Using the vanilla bean means you can see the actual flecks of vanilla throughout the whipped cream. It looks so fancy and has AMAZING flavor. But you can substitute with 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract.

While I prefer to use Guinness you can substitute any dark beer, preferably stout. Or even a porter-style beer. Those have the most flavor in my opinion.

Some people don’t add sugar to sweeten homemade whipped cream. I think using powdered sugar is a great way make the topping taste absolutely delicious every time.

How to Make Beer Whipped Cream

A mixing bowl with heavy whipping cream, vanilla bean and powdered sugar before mixing.
    1. In the bowl of a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. (I freaking love my KitchenAid) Add cold whipping cream, powdered sugar, beer and vanilla bean.
    2. Mix on high until soft peaks form (approximately 3-4 minutes, give or take).

I prefer medium peaks when the whipped cream can stand up on its own, holding its shape, except for the tip which folds over on itself when you take the beater away. You can see that in the first photo and the one below.

Soft peaks are a little floppier. You’re welcome for that technical term. :)

    Tips and Tricks

    • Chill the beer whipped cream until ready to use.
    • To get the best results, use really cold whipping cream. You can also freeze your metal mixing bowl and beaters.
    • You can use 1/2 tsp of vanilla instead of a vanilla bean.
    • It’s better to under mix than overmix whipped cream. Too long, and it turns into a broken, clumpy mess.
    • Don’t have a stand mixer? You can make this with a hand mixer. You can even make by hand with a whisk but your arm will be TIRED.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do you keep whipped cream from getting watery?

Homemade whipped cream can get watery as it sits. To stabilize whipped cream, and keep it holding its shape longer, you can add a gelatin and water mixture. Chew Out Loud shows you how.

This technique is not necessary if you aren’t planning on making it last for several days.

How do you store homemade whipped cream?

Cover it tightly and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Can you fix over-whipped whipped cream?

You can try! Start but putting the bowl in the fridge for about 45 minutes then stir with a spatula to mix it together. If that doesn’t work, you can try adding a bit more cream, then mix together. It may be too far gone. Then you can start over if you have enough ingredients.

Can kids eat this Beer Whipped Cream?

I probably wouldn’t give my kids this alcohol-flavored whipped cream. The amount of beer they would get from a bite or even several spoonfuls of the stout whipped cream would probably be minuscule. But still.

Guinness whipped cream might just be the dessert topping you didn’t know you needed. Once you’ve tasted it on a fudgy chocolate brownie, or on your favorite chocolate ice cream you won’t be able to get enough!
