Welcome to water week. Huh, you say… I really don’t know what else to call it. So water week it is. But it isn’t just like, boring old water. These waters are fruit infused and super refreshing. I drink this kind of stuff all summer long so I thought I would share them with you. I was browsing through a super old cocktail book of my grandmother’s the other day and one of the recipes called for muddled lemon. And I thought to myself, now if that isn’t the easiest way ever to make lemonade, I don’t know what is. So this week I’ll be sharing 3 recipes for easy muddled fruit ades. Today I kick it off with a Muddled Ginger Limeade Recipe.
Ginger and lime are my go to flavors. All of my favorite cocktails have one or both of these included. You may remember I shared a similar recipe last year. But that one had fizzy water and was more about the flavors being really subtle. This muddled ginger limeade is about really tasting the flavors. But as always I love that these recipes can be made for your personal flavor preferences.
First things first. I’m not all the concerned about buying organic fruits. To be honest, I can’t afford it. And usually I’m not too concerned about the toxicity of my limes, since I’m just using the juice. But since the rind and all will be in the beverage, I wanted to make sure to do what I could to remove anything grody from the skin. I used my Honest Fruit and Veg wash (I LOVE this stuff!!) and then I was good to go. Totally not sponsored, I just really love it.
Do you own a muddler? I’m fancy. I have a set of 3. I’m sure they each serve a specific purpose but to me they just look cool. And sometimes it is a struggle to get all that delicious juicy goodness out of the citrus. A muddler does it with ease. If you don’t have one, get one. I simply don’t know how I survived without one! (Ok, I’ll stop being so dramatic).
Once you have muddled the fruit, you can add your sweetener of choice. I prefer and agave nectar since it dissolves better in liquids than sugar. Play around with the amounts you need to suit your taste. I use a tiny amount or none at all since I like my drinks a little on the bitter side. I find this really odd considering I have a sweet tooth the size of Texas.

- 1 lime (personal preference about how many pieces you use - I used about 3/4 of a lime)
- 1 1" piece of fresh ginger
- Agave Nectar or other sweetener (optional)
- Cut each lime half in to quarters.
- Peel and rough cut the ginger in to coins
- Place lime and ginger in the bottom of your glass.
- Add agave if using.
- Muddle the fruit and agave with your muddler.
- Add ice.
- Top with water.
- Taste and adjust flavors so your mouth is happy.
