I’ve been meaning to work out for a while now. And I’m not quite ready. It’s literally been so long that the first time I do something strenuous I will probably not be able to move for a week. So I’ve been looking at my calendar and trying to figure out when the right time to get started is. In the meantime, I’ve totally started dressing the part! The athleisure trend is my new favorite! And it’s perfect for busy moms!
I’ve never been a gal that runs around town in leggings. I just didn’t feel put together. But that’s because I was doing it wrong. And lately, I’ve been seeing so many cute workout clothes! I’ve come to realize there is nothing wrong with wearing leggings, even if you have no intention to work out in them. You know I love comfy clothes, like jumpsuits, that look stylish!
Athleisure outfits are stylish and feel like pajamas!
The athleisure trend combines activewear with a comfortable style that is perfect for after the workout. I work from home and while I get dressed every morning, there are some days that I literally only leave my house to pick up one son from school. I’m not about to waste my cutest outfit on that. Instead, I’m going to rock some cute leggings (that basically feel like pajamas) and move on with the rest of my day.Getting my first pair of Lululemon leggings was definitely a big part of adopting athleisure in my wardrobe. My husband got them for me with a gift card he had to the store. They are, by far, the most comfortable legging I’ve ever worn. But the price tag is pretty steep and I don’t want to sweat in them! How ridiculous is that?! I now have 2 pairs and wear them. A lot.
But I’ve also come across another amazingly comfortable pair of leggings at the Gap! My favorite leopard pair is sold out, as well as the blue pair from the image at the top of the post! But there are still a bunch of cute options that would be just as comfy. (Dying over these black and white striped ones!) While I think they are still too expensive to purchase at full price, the Gap often has sales for 40% off which makes them totally worth it! I prefer the Sculpt leggings gFast High Rise Sculpt leggings. I love the material and how they suck you in in all the right places! And if they are sold out of your size, check back! They seem to restock! Can’t stop, won’t stop with these shoes. The Adidas Ultra Boost are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned. And I LOVE how they look. The pair I have don’t have laces and look super sleek but they are sold out pretty much everywhere. I’ve been wearing them with jeans and t-shirts constantly. And they also go amazingly well with leggings.
My husband has a version with laces and they are equally as comfy! I usually discard my shoes first thing when I get home for the day. But with these Adidas, I find that I keep them on until I put my pajamas on! I have the black but they come in blush pink too!
The key to making athleisure look intentional is to mix up the leggings with some pieces that are not sloppy. I like to look for shirts that are a bit longer (because no one wants to see everything I’m working with), but that has a cool detail to it. I have a distressed tshirt from Free People that I wear a lot, or an activewear shirt from Old Navy that has a little knot in the front to keep it from being too boxy. Usually with my leggings, I also pair it with a cute oversize, cozy Cathedral Cardigan that you can see with the shoes in this Instagram post.
Wearing accessories with your cute workout clothes is another way to make it look more like an outfit than an after thought. I love this cute boho batik headband. It will dress up your top knot perfectly. And I always like to throw on a simple necklace and maybe a few extra rings. These types of accessories also pair well with your favorite boho dresses!
And why did I put a water bottle on there? Well, because Swell makes the cutest bottles. Of course, you should always have water with you on your errands and especially if you decide to sweat in your athleisure wear. But it also is great for holding wine…Just saying.
Athleisure is my fave! I love any trend that celebrates comfort. Lord knows moms need that!
