When I look back at all the amazing opportunities I’ve had in my life, I’m really proud. It started way back when I was in elementary school and I think it helped to shape who I am today. And now, as a mom to elementary and junior high aged kids, it’s important for me to show them how to live bold and seize those opportunities as well. I’m going to show you what’s in my bag and how that keeps me ready to live life to the fullest!
What’s in My Bag!
Much like a mom “diaper” bag, I keep my purse full of the things that let me stay on the go and ready for anything that comes my way. It’s finally full of more things for me and less for my kids!
A backup battery keeps my phone usable for hours for directions, texting mom friends to help pick up my children or any phone calls I need to make.
My iPad has books that I can read in case I need to wait somewhere for a while (or games to keep the kids busy if they are with me – because opportunities don’t always come when it’s most convenient.)
Foster Farms Bold Bites keep me from getting hangry! I always keep a snack with protein in my bag in case I don’t have time to stop for a full meal. These taste delicious and have 15 grams of protein and no nitrates, nitrites or artificial flavors or colors. Bold Bites are a ready-to-eat snack made of quality whole chicken breast meat!
I bring paper and a pen with me in case I need to make notes, leave a note or want to remind myself of something later. Yes, I know I can write notes on my phone but I’m more old school.
Lipgloss helps to make you look a little more put together if you have to look presentable at the last minute.
Essential oils keep me (and other people) smelling fresh. They also are great for reducing stress if I say yes to something that is out of my comfort zone.
Gum helps with that fresh breath.
My wallet, because duh.
Sunglasses because they keep me from getting headaches if I’m out and about (sun glare is so awful!) As a lifelong headache sufferer, I don’t want to miss out on opportunities because of them! I carry this blue purse especially on days where I could use an icebreaker. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it over the years that I know it’s an easy way to start a conversation with someone. And let’s face it. Sometimes that is how opportunities come! You have to put yourself out there!
It can be hard to step out of your comfort zone, but I feel like I’ve made a habit of doing it my whole life. In elementary school, my best friend and I choreographed our class play. I don’t remember it feeling stressful because it was something we loved to do anyway and what an experience it gave us! In high school, I was THE student chosen to go to a youth leadership conference in San Diego. By myself. On the train. It was hard to not know anyone else there! But it showed me that I could do anything I wanted with my life and I didn’t need to be afraid of the unknown.
How I Live Bold
I’m grateful for my mom who looked out for opportunities for me and also encouraged me to try new things. She never hesitated to let me participate even if it meant putting me on a 2-hour train ride when I’d never traveled by myself before.
Even now, as a busy mom who wants to encourage her own kids to take risks, I still look for ways to live bold and jump at new experiences. This purse is small, but holds the world! What’s in my bag lets me feel confident that I can handle business on the go and jump at whatever comes my way! I love to share stories of the cool things I’ve done (like fly to Seattle, as senior in high school, to go to a photography camp at the Art Institute for a week!) to inspire my kids to look for ways to live bold too. It’s never too early to talk to your kids about taking all the opportunities that come their way! I’ve also been able to share some rad things with them thanks to this job as an influencer (Sleepover at a zoo! Special access to things at Disneyland!) and see that they understand there is a lot of life to live!
I also try to model how a good diet, one full of protein, keeps your body running well and keeps you full and ready for anything! They see these Bold Bites in the fridge (and my bag) and know that it’s because I want to get the most out of life. They are full of big taste (they come in 5 flavors) for big adventures! They’re super easy to eat on the go no matter where the day takes you!! And are equally as perfect for a day when you are just running errands.
I’m about to embark on a conference/ cruise where I don’t know anyone! My kids asked me if I was nervous and, of course, I said yes. But I also shared with them how I will make new friends, learn SO much and come home with more stories of awesome adventures. Nerves shouldn’t hold you back! Go live that life! Do you live bold?? What’s in your bag? Are you ready for those opportunities?
