The very first Diner en Blanc came to Orange County this year! I was super lucky to be invited and couldn’t wait to attend. While it does take a little bit of planning to prep for Diner en Blanc (because you have to bring literally EVERYTHING with you and do it all while looking chic in white) I knew that the experience would be totally worth it!
*I was provided with 2 tickets to the event. All opinions are mine.
Watch the video to get a quick glimpse of what Diner en Blanc was like! But then be sure to watch the official video because it is super cool. It had rained all morning long which meant the idea of wearing white was a little stressful. Also, the location is kept a complete surprise so you don’t really know where you are dressing for. I had guessed that it would be by the ocean, because, duh. I picked up this dress from Forever 21 since I don’t have a lot of white in my closet. I also had to buy a white jacket and brought a white blanket to snuggle up with since I knew it would be pretty cold. I have to say, the fashion was ALL over the place. Some people were super chic, others came with masks and big elaborate hats and things. It was really fun to people watch! Here is the simple tablescape that I put together. At the last-minute my friend couldn’t come with me as my date so I only brought one set of everything. Yes, I had to carry rocks all over Orange County. Next time I think I’ll try to think of something a little lighter…While I kept it super simple, others went all out and created canopies with PVC pipe! It was really fun to walk around and see how everyone decorated. The napkin wave is how they signal the start of the event. It’s the little details like this that really make it feel extra special. The event is attended by couples, friends and big groups enjoying each others company or celebrating big life events. It feels very celebratory and there was a buzz of excitement throughout the whole event. For my dinner, I brought Urban Plates which I had picked up earlier in the day. It was delicious and easy to transport. Diner en Blanc also has food available for purchase (not at the time of the event but it must be ordered online ahead of time). I got their cheese plate which was delicious and pre-ordered a bottle of wine (the only thing you can’t bring with you is alcohol). Buying dinner ahead of time is a great idea since it takes one of the pressures off of you in preparing for the event. The atmosphere is so cool. Hundreds of people, all in white is a sight to see! From the time the buses arrive to the end of set up is relatively quick. And then, suddenly, there is a huge party in full swing. It really is something you have to do at least once. I can see why this is a worldwide event! And being right on the beach didn’t suck. After dinner, everyone gets sparklers. I have an irrational fear of sparklers so this was actually hell for me. I tried not to freak out but just stood still trying not to catch on fire. It did look cool, and of course I took a few Boomerangs of people holding them. But I was sweaty by the time this part of the event wrapped up.When dinner was done, we headed over to the stage set up in front of Sea Legs Wine Bar. The entertainment (DJ Ravi Drums, a DJ with an elaborate drum kit rig) kept everyone dancing. He was joined by the horn section from Earth Wind and Fire (which you can see a little bit of in my video…) It was so much fun! A photo booth is always a fun way to create a memory to take home with you. I had to get in there with my friends Caryn and Jen. I’m so glad that I got to attend this event. Diner en Blanc would be such a fun date night or girl’s night out. There were people of all ages (no kids) and everyone was friendly and helpful.
