While working an uninteresting desk job, I decided to start a blog as a creative outlet for all the ideas and artsy energy in my head. At first, the blog only focused on party products and ideas but over time it has developed in to this lifestyle site where I get to write about pretty much whatever I want. And I get to do so in a way that I want. To say that it has fulfilled that creative need for me would be an understatement. But there was also another surprising thing to come out of blogging for me. Something I never expected when I published my first post (about wooden ice cream spoons!) years and years ago.
The friendships that I have made, as a blogger, are crazy awesome. Just like in real life, there are different levels to these friendships. Some, I am just acquainted with. While others I would consider my best friends. I know that many people don’t understand online relationships or see how they could be the same as those friendships made in person, but that is what is so surprising about them. They are real, genuine and good for the soul. When I started out, I thought the online world would be ripe with competition and calculated jockeying for position. But in reality, it is a supportive, enriching experience in which I count people, all across the country, as true friends. Finding rad lady friends through blogging has been such a pleasant surprise.
Life is better with surprises. Don’t you think?
