Thanks to the internet, every kid in America has said the name, “John Cena.” They may not know who he is exactly, but he’s now a household name. (Watch this to get an idea of why they know him). Some of you may know him for his work as a WWE superstar. Regardless of how you know him, he’s starring in a new movie, Surf’s Up 2 : Wavemania, and your kids are going to love it! Here’s how I surprised my kids with their copy of the movie (out now on DVD and digital!) along with some surf inspired snacks.
My kids need to unwind when they get home from school. They hate to jump right in to homework so I try to let them have a snack and some screen time each day. But I knew I could use that time to create an extra fun experience for them, even on a school day. My kids are not big wrestling fans (they probably are, we just hardly ever come across it) but they love animated movies. And being So Cal kids, liking anything surf related, is a given. My youngest son is pretty adventurous with food. He loves sushi and trying new things. He’s a big fan of dried seaweed for a snack. So it was a no brainer in terms of pairing it with a movie themed around surfing. I’m not sure he even realized, before eating it while watching Surf’s Up 2, that this is the same seaweed you trip on when you go to the beach. Consider his mind blown! We came across this soda in the Asian foods aisle of our grocery store (probably when we were picking up the seaweed). The flavor is SUPER sweet and if I had to guess, would say it might be blue raspberry. The whale on the bottle makes it the perfect addition to our themed treats. And while this whale looks really happy, for some reason my kids refer to this as “crying whale soda.” We are big fans of Surf Sweets in our home. While the candy itself isn’t ocean themed, it is made with natural ingredients which makes me feel a little bit better about serving. Surf Sweets were one of the first candies my oldest son had due to his food allergies. You can find Surf Sweets at your local Sprouts market (or probably Whole Foods). An alternative candy choice would be Swedish Fish. Duh.Now, let’s talk about the movie.
Surf’s Up 2: Wavemania followers surfer penguin, Cody Maverick. His childhood dream comes true when The Hang 5, a world-famous surf crew known for their extreme stunts and personalities, visits his island. Cody joins the crew on a journey to a mysterious spot to surf the biggest waves in the world and they challenge him on the skills it takes to become a member of The Hang 5 – power, speed, endurance and teamwork.
This is the perfect family night movie that will appeal to a wide variety of ages. Plus you know how much kids LOVE treats! They’ll be super pumped to discover these characters right alongside these surf inspired snacks! And you know, Sony Studios Animation always KILLS it with cool animation and fantastic characters! This movie has a great message for the kids along with being entertaining. Surf’s Up 2 : Wavemania is out now on DVD via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and digital and features super fun bonus material including bloopers, behind the scenes footage of the WWE superstars, plus an animated short.
I was sent a copy of Surf’s Up 2 : Wavemania to facilitate this post.
