Television is my guilty pleasure. It’s how I unwind at night and I love all kinds of different genres. Some TV series have been on for a while now and others are just premiering this week (OMG, Scandal I’ve missed you!). I thought it was the perfect time to help you pair your favorite television shows with SkinnyPop popcorn and wine.
I’m not 100% in to The Bachelor. But weirdly, I am addicted to Bachelor in Paradise when it’s on each summer. That’s where I first met Nick. So when he became THE Bachelor, I had to know who was vying for his heart. It truly might be the cheesiest show on television (EVERY rose ceremony is, some how, the most dramatic one EVER!). Which is why it pairs so well with SkinnyPop’s White Cheddar popcorn. Add a glass of malbec to your snack and you’ve created the perfect scenario for watching someone try to find love among borderline crazy, catty women. What I love about SkinnyPop popcorn is that a serving size is a legit amount. For not a lot of calories, you get the perfect crunchy snack that will still allow you to fit in to your pants. It’s a genius snack. And it pairs with wine so well! The cheese flavor is subtle but really does cut the craving when you want something naughty to stuff in your face while watching cheesey TV shows like:
Summer House (Bravo) – There’s a lot of drama unfolding in the house. Most of it seems to be from a guy who is bent out of shape because one of his guy friends, who was supposed to be his “wing man” for the summer, is sort of pairing off with a roommate. The girls are looking for love and the guys are looking for a good time. I don’t know how they don’t get fired from their jobs leaving early on Fridays and coming in late on Mondays, if at all!
Vanderpump Rules, obvi (Bravo) – Duh. It’s the best. I have no idea why these people are so open with their dirty laundry. I hope they are making a ton of money because I think several of them might be unemployable when this show wraps.
Any and all Real Housewives franchise (Bravo) – I think my fave is the OC season, just because I live here and it’s fun to see people you know and places you go. I also enjoy New York and Beverly Hills. Atlanta just isn’t grabbing me. I can’t wait for Melbourne to come back. It is a close second for my favorite. Their accents are the best! I try to learn all their slang words every season. I’m sure it will come in handy one day.
Any movie on the Hallmark Channel – Yes, they are formulaic. The girl always gets the guy with one chaste kiss at the end. And I freaking love them! They are my absolute favorite guilty pleasure. You can find at least one movie on my DVR at all times.
Flip or Flop (HGTV) I can’t help it. It’s like a train wreck. Have you started watching The Mick? My hubby and I started watching it right when the season started and it is our absolute fave new sitcom. While there are kids in the show, it is in no way, kid friendly. Kaitlyn Olsen is hysterical as the aunt (a total screw up) who has to suddenly care for the 3 nieces and nephews she barely knows when her sister and brother-in-law flee the country. There is tons of crude humor, physical comedy and debauchery. It’s the best!
Jalapeno SkinnyPop goes perfect with this spicy show! It’s in your face, but tolerable, and leaves you wanting more! Pair it with a Pinot Grigio for the perfect prime time snack.
Here are some other jalapeno popcorn worthy shows:
Scandal (ABC) – I was really late to this one but decided to start watching it on Netflix. I got through season 4 (total binged, like, would go to bed early to watch a bunch and end up awake super late. Or saying I was going to watch one episode while I ate lunch and then I’d watch 3 until I had to tear myself away to go pick up the kids from school. Oops). I was seriously depressed when I finished the shows because I didn’t know when the next season started. Color me surprised when I woke up the next morning to the news that season 5 was starting that night! Season 6 starts tonight and I’M SO EXCITED! I make my husband watch with me, but he missed the first 4 seasons. There is a lot of exasperation and pausing to try to get him up to speed.
Girlfriends Guide to Divorce (Bravo) – This show is so great! It’s full of drama and humor and sadness and good girlfriends. It pushes boundaries for cable TV.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX) – We’re a little behind on this show but you definitely have to like a certain kind of humor to like this show. It’s not for everybody. But my husband and I love it. It’s where I first saw Katilyn Olsen and it’s a similar style of physical comedy and over the top scenarios like The Mick.
American Horror Story (FX) Get caught up on Netflix! OBSESSED. And totally grossed out. The writing, story lines and actors are phenomenal. There is a lot of blood and guts. I’ve figured out by listening to the music, when I need to put my head down so I don’t throw up.
The Arrangement (E) – This show doesn’t start until March but I already love it. I got to watch the first 2 episodes and it’s SO good. The characters are gorgeous, the story line is intriguing and the music is fantastic. I really think you are going to love this one! When ABC cancelled Nashville, I almost cried. I don’t love country music but the way they weave in the music through out the story lines is totally tolerable. The cast is the best and there are story lines touching on all kinds of family issues. I am so glad that CMT decided to pick it up and air the newest season. While some of the characters didn’t return, my favorites did and I think it’s only going to get better!
This show has a lot of sweet moments making the perfect popcorn pairing the SkinnyPop Dusted Dark Chocolate. If you haven’t had it yet, GET IT! I am a big popcorn fan and you can usually find a bag of it in my cupboard. I have resisted the chocolate version because it just didn’t sound great to me. I am so glad that I finally picked it up. It has a real dark chocolate flavor with a hint of salty. It’s the perfect snack for when you want something sweet but don’t want to totally undo any of the healthy eating you’ve been doing. And when you pair it with a Pinot Noir, it’s the perfect dessert while watching your favorite sweet show. OMG! Did you hear that Will and Grace is coming back?! So excited. It was always one of my favorite sitcoms! I love the tender moments between Will and Grace and Karen and Jack. Here are more shows with super sweet moments to pair with your favorite red and Chocolate SkinnyPop:
Speechless (ABC) – The family is quirky and has all kinds of things that could make them bitter. Instead they are a total family unit and always find a way to have fun with each other.
Modern Family (ABC) – My favorite character is Phil Dunphy who always wants to be bffs with Jay and any mime around town. The kids can be kind of jerky but in the end always root for each other. It’s a family sitcom with lots of heart.
Blackish (ABC) – Tracy Ellis Ross is my jam. And paired with Anthony Edwards?! They are the ultimate sitcom parents. If you haven’t seen the episode where their oldest son dunks on dad in a friendly game of basketball, you need to look it up. Especially if you are a mom of boys or has a husband who acts like one. Warning, tons of nuts and ball jokes… but a real look at the father/son relationship.
Life in Pieces (CBS) – This is the story of 4 units of one family and is done as short stories. The way they can intertwine the stories and often show flashbacks to enhance the moments is awesome. This is one of our favorites for sure.
Super Store (NBC) – I love how varied all the characters are and yet you still feel like they will always go to bat for each other. Especially if it means going up against their big box corporate office.
The Good Place (NBC) – What happens when you get wrongly sent to heaven? You see a lot of hysterical flashbacks about what a jerk you were when you were alive. Plus the friends that you’ve made while in heaven will do just about anything to keep you there. Kristen Bell is awesome in this. She manages to be likable and revolting at the same time.
This is Us (NBC) – I’m not going to lie, I’ve never seen this. I cry easily and it would just make me all puffy in the morning. But people seem to love it so I thought I’d include it anyway. Have you seen it? What’s your take? Would I cry?
SkinnyPop has even more varieties of popcorn to choose from. Pair them with wine to create a delicious snacking moment in front of your favorite TV program. What shows are you obsessed with???? And what popcorn snack will you eat while watching it??
