Sometimes a restaurant is awesome just because of the food. But other times they offer way more than just a great meal and it blows your mind that you never knew about it. That is totally the case with Savannah Chop House in Laguna Niguel. I recently got a chance to check out the restaurant. Yes, the food is killer. But it’s so much more than the food.
I participated in a dining event via Giga Savvy Social Club. All opinions, hangovers and love handles are my own. Savannah Chop House is perfect for date nights. Do you get to go on those? My husband and I are really trying to get one in monthly. The restaurant is dim and cozy and subtly romantic. The lounge area offers live music and a modified menu including wine and cocktails. And in the main dining room, there are delicious options for everyone. On this gorgeous California evening, we were treated to dinner on the patio. With a partial ocean view and lush greenery, you feel secluded without feeling claustrophobic. Recently, Chef Chris Tzorin joined the team at Savannah Chop House as Executive Chef and reinvented the menu. Yes, you can still get a steak dinner similar to what you would find at other steak joints, but you’ll also find fresh, seasonal dishes like a Watermelon Beet Salad and next level Bison Short Ribs. I remember watching Chris on Chopped a few seasons ago and hoped to get the chance to taste his food one day. It didn’t disappoint. More than anything, Chris is outgoing and passionate about providing the best dining experience for each guest. I love that he is an Orange County native and was genuinely excited to share his art with us. This guy is legit. You HAVE to check his Instagram where he shows you behind the scenes shots of an in demand chef including the video where he had to cook in the back seat of a car to make it, ready to go, for a radio interview! On this night we were treated to several tray passed hors d’oeuvres including these prosciutto wrapped prawns. Yes, as you would expect, they were delicious. The 3-course meal was sensational including the desserts. All you chocolate lovers need to run down there to try the warm souffle cake. Go. The full culinary experience is on point with an exemplary craft cocktail menu. We tasted several cocktails, chosen to pair with our meal, and they were a highlight, for sure. We started off with a jalapeno infused blood orange mimosa and I’m still thinking about the Cucumber Catcher we tried that was the perfect amount of sweetness and the most refreshing drink ever. It was perfect for a sunset dinner on the patio.
But like I said before, this restaurant is more than just awesome food. The people, from wait staff, to General Manager, Philip Roberson, were friendly, and hospitable. The restaurant also offers specialty dinners, like winemaker pairings, can host private events and puts on learning events, such as Cook, Learn, Play for kids. Check out the restaurant’s Upcoming Events tab to see what’s coming up. The restaurant isn’t new. It has been serving Laguna Niguel and surrounding areas for 17 years. But the vibe is fresh and I recommend you checking it out for your next date night. Don’t worry if you can’t find a sitter, the kid’s menu looks like so much fun (Meatloaf Cupcakes, Filet Lollipops).
