Spring is the perfect time to give your wardrobe a little refresh! This season it’s all about a subtle nautical vibe. With the weather warming up, it’s time to break out those sandals and stripes! A nautical update is easier than you think!
I collaborated with Old Navy to share how I am working in the nautical theme to my outfit this spring. This post contains affiliate links. Purchasing through an affiliate link helps support this website. Items in this post may have also been gifted for consideration.
While the weather is getting warmer, the nights and mornings can still be a bit chilly. Having a comfy sweatshirt on hand is the perfect way to keep warm. Paired with some cute accessories, you’ll look put together and ready for adventure on the water. (Even if you don’t live anywhere near water!). And, YOU GUYS! This sweatshirt is the softest material ever! I bought my husband a plain sweatshirt from Old Navy for Christmas and he LIVES in it. When he knew I was headed to Old Navy to shop he put in a request for more sweatshirts! You HAVE to feel how amazing these are!

Nothing says “nautical” like stripes. But, I’ve been in a stripes phase for a while so I really needed to take a break from them. You know it’s time to pull back when you walk by your closet and all you see is stripes! I loved how this t-shirt still felt nautical but in a modern way. The stripes are implied. :) Old Navy also has so many cute neckerchiefs and scarfs right now! Adding a neckerchief to your outfit keeps it casual and unfussy but is a fun way to add a pop of color! And a good jean jacket is something you can’t go wrong with and works with so many different styles. I’ve been realizing that I don’t have a lot of “finishing” pieces in my wardrobe. I have jackets to keep me warm, but nothing easy to throw on when I want to add another layer to finish my look. This jacket will be getting tons of use!
A nautical update doesn’t need to be over the top with Captain’s hats and boat shoes. I am not about themed dressing. At all. So while I wanted to make sure that my outfits had an element of nautical-ism (you heard that here first, folks), I also wanted to make sure the outfits still looked like me and wouldn’t have people scratching their heads wondering if I was going to a costume party.

I also want to remind you that you don’t just have to stick to the women’s department! This t-shirt was actually the first thing that caught my eye when I walked in the store. And it was in the men’s department. This jacket too! Both of those pieces totally fit in my mom uniform. And can we talk about these jeans for a minute… I have always had a hard time finding pants that fit me. While I look thin, I actually wear a size 10. Thanks, birthing hips! And I’m very particular about how my pants fit. On the day that I went in to Old Navy to put together my outfits, I tried on at least 20 pairs of pants. And none of them fit or were flattering (note to Old Navy: Do we really need a “super skinny” pant? That can’t be flattering on the majority of people. When I’m reaching for a size 10, I’m not also looking for super skinny. It’s like having a slim fit XXL).
These pants were the final pair that I tried on and they worked! And were comfortable and flattering. These are the High-Rise Rockstar Built in Sculpt Jeans. I’m all about a high waist. I’ve got 5-10 pounds to work off that pretty much all sits in the muffin top region. The high waist is key for holding all of that in. The material is thick, with a bit of stretch, so they feel like they are holding you in, in the right places. And I didn’t have a saggy bottom. Which is huge. Plus they are comfortable. I know fashion isn’t all about comfort. But it matters a lot to me. I think we are more confident when we are comfortable and not tugging at what we are wearing. And as moms, if we have to take time to tug at something, there’s probably spilled milk or crayon writing on the wall. Ain’t no one got time for tugging.

While I love my mom uniform (jeans and a t-shirt for life!), I always need to have a few good blouses that I can throw on for PTA meetings, lunch with friends or even date night. Old Navy has tons of cute top options right now. This striped tunic (I know it’s stripes, but these run in a different direction than my other tops so it’s totally fine…she tells herself) is super easy to throw on with a pair of jeans and cute sandals for a put together and stylish look. If you aren’t on the Old Navy email list (bottom left hand corner of their homepage), you need to get on it immediately. I’ve noticed that they’ve stepped up their sale game and the emails let you know what deals are going on each week. It’s awesome to save so much money. And it’s terrible because you realize that you are buying everything in the store!
