Knott’s Soak City Water Park opened this past weekend! My family spent some time there on Saturday checking out their new rides and expanded park! It’s the largest water park in Orange County and it’s open now through September 10th! My family was hosted by Knott’s Soak City Water Park.
This was our first time experiencing Soak City so we were all super excited to check it out. The weather earlier in the week had been grey and cold. But Saturday was HOT and sunny and perfect for exploring the water rides. Although we got in before the park opened to the public for this special media event, just know that there was already a LONG line of people waiting to get in. If you plan on coming on a weekend, be prepared to get there early! It’s a very popular place for local families! To save time and a little money, you can buy a single day ticket online. They are also available at the ticket counters for a day of visit. Plus there are great season pass options that include Knott’s Berry Farm too!
The newly expanded Soak City park features more seating areas and cabanas that are available to rent. The cabanas are in several areas throughout the park and feature lounge chairs plus a table and chairs for a comfortable place to rest and eat throughout the day. The cabanas come with waiter service (although the food is purchased separately) and can hold up to 8 guests (admission to the park is also separate). And THERE’S A LAZY RIVER! Who doesn’t love a lazy river?!
The landscape and design of Soak City can be described as colorfully tropical. Although the park is larger, to accommodate some new slides, the park is a great, manageable size.My kids had the best time! We made sure to lather them up in sunscreen and then they basically ditched me to check out the slides with my husband. Of course, I woke up with a migraine that morning. Sitting out in the bright sun is not ideal when you have a terrible headache. I took a prescription pill and grabbed a big old hat and sunglasses and made it work. And as someone who can’t sit in the sun (fair skin is the worst, you guys!) there were several shady areas to hide in. This season, they’ve added Shore Break which takes single riders on an adrenaline-filled water adventure. Riders board one of four Aqua Launch chambers and then wait for the chamber’s floor to drop from beneath their feet, sending them on a high-speed free fall down a 60-foot tall slide and through a series of exhilarating drops and daring loops. Shore Break also offers two dueling tube slides which will have riders zipping through drops and turns before flying out in to a pool. There are height requirements on some slides but there are plenty of options for kids that aren’t quite tall enough like the wave pool. This Harbor Waterworks area is full of hands on water toys and mini slides. It appeals to little and big kids alike! The wave pool was delightful. It was perfect for getting your feet wet and cooling off. My youngest had a really great time playing in here and loved diving under the waves. Plus I could see him from my lounge chair which always makes my mom heart happy. My kids are 8 and 11, and along with my husband, they explored the park for hours. As the day went on, the lines got longer but the wait times still weren’t too bad. Getting there early meant that we could find lounge chairs in the shade. That is a hot commodity so if you need to sit in the shade consider getting in line really early or paying for a cabana. If you have younger children, you will be following them around most of the time, so just know that! Knott’s Soak City is a hidden gem in the middle of Buena Park. It was super clean, well staffed and even though it was super crowded it still felt comfortable and tropical. It’s the perfect place to hang out on a hot day with your family!
We didn’t get a chance to try out The Wedge for ourselves but it looks so fun! This new slide takes families – up to six riders – on an open-raft ride as they descend down navigating hair-raising twists, turns and unexpected dips.Longboard’s Grill returns for the 2017 summer season after a complete remodeling and expansion which now offers a newly redesigned sleek restaurant layout. While Longboard’s theme remains the same, the menu includes new and delicious items such as chicken tenders (yum!), fish & chips and assorted wraps. Plus favorites like burgers and hot dogs. A new shaded seating area has been added by the entrance, allowing guests to take a break from the sun as they enjoy their lunches. It was hard to get the kids to stop playing long enough to eat lunch! We had a great time at Knott’s Soak City Water Park! Your kids will love it!
