My family goes through a bag of OREOs like nobodies business. They are a favorite of my kids, my husband and I have also been known to eat one or 30 of them for a snack.

And even my son’s pickiest friends will indulge in a cookie snack while over for a play date. So while I like sharing the cookies as they are, I also like to use them in sweet treats (OREO stuffed chocolate chip cookies anyone???).

OREO has a classic cookie ball recipe that I decided to put my spin on.

So I took inspiration from one of my favorite cookies (the Compost Cookie from Milk Bar) and created these Kitchen Sink OREO Cookie Balls that I serve with salty dippers.

Because who doesn’t want to eat your dessert with a potato chip.

Yes! Don’t let that intimidate you. You can easily crush Oreos by using a high-powered blender or a food processor. Ideally, they should be a fine-ish powder.

If you don’t have either of those, you can put Oreos in a plastic bag and beat the hell out of them with a rolling pin. They won’t get quite as fine but you really just need to break them up into small-ish pieces.

Christina Tossi of Milk Bar is ridonkulous. She’s super creative and is an absolute genius. So I decided to create my take on her cookie in a cookie ball.

Instead of creating a ball that you might eat like a truffle, I decided to make it a little bit larger (I LOVE me some sweets) and serve it with dippers like you might with a cheese ball.

  • Oreos
  • cream cheese, room temperature
  • pecans
  • instant coffee
  • toffee bits
  • baking chocolate

The basic cookie ball recipe includes a whole package of OREOs, and a block of cream cheese.

As if cream cheese and crushed OREOs isn’t delicious enough, I decided to add in some pecans, instant coffee and toffee bits.

Word to your mother.

Then all of that creamy, crunchy, flavorful goodness is rolled in chocolate pieces made from a bar of baking chocolate. It’s the perfect finishing touch.

Add everything to your stand mixer and mix it all up.

As long as the cream cheese is nice and soft at room temperature it should be super easy to mix everything well.

Roll them up.

I kept them in the traditional Oreo Cookie Balls size but since I am serving these as mini cheese balls with dippers, I probably could have made them a little bit larger.

There really is no wrong size for a cookies and cream cookie ball.

Roughly chop some semi sweet baking chocolate. Roll each ball in the chocolate.

I prefer to finish the OREO Cookie Balls this way instead of in melted chocolate. It looks nicer, in my opinion and gives them a little more texture.

Try your best to not throw cleanliness to the wind and put your face in the bowl of chocolate. You know you want to.

Don’t worry, there will be some leftover.

I don’t see the harm in adding a little bit of milk to the bowl and eating it like cereal…Mmmmmmmmm.

You know how when there is a cheese ball at a party? And there is that one person just going at it, double dipping with their chips and grossing up the joint?

You totally don’t have that with these Kitchen Sink OREO Cookie Balls.

Yes. Oreo Cookie Balls need to be refrigerated because of the cream cheese used.

Store Oreo cookie balls tightly wrapped so they’re air-tight in the refrigerator.

Oreo Cookie Balls will last 1-2 weeks, if tightly wrapped. You can also freeze them for up to a month in an air-tight container.

These are sized to have each guest take one on their own plate to enjoy. But don’t judge them if they take more than one. They are that good.

Now let’s talk for a second about how you eat this. I’m a big big fan of sweet and salty. So it really just makes sense to eat these with pretzels, potato chips and graham cracker sticks.

Am I right?

You guys, the chips are my favorite with this dessert dip. It’s good. Real good.

These would be perfect for just about any type of gathering. It is up to you if you want to leave out the instant coffee if you are going to share these with your kids. They may never sleep again.

These will probably be attending any holiday function I get invited to. And they will also be keeping me company on New Year’s Eve with a glass of champagne.

These are super easy to transport to a holiday potluck. Or to pack in your lunch to take to work. Or even put in your pocket and eat in line at the bank…

I had a really great time creating these OREO cookie balls and am pleased to share them with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

*P.S. Imma keep it really real.  I’m not one of those bloggers that works on holiday posts in July.

If I’m being honest, I don’t even know where my holiday decorations are in the garage.

While these pictures may not look very holiday, trust me that theses OREO cookie balls will fit in with whatever blue and silver, red and green or black and gold decor you may have in your house.

    1. The cookie ball tastes amazing with the Lays potato chips. For real. And the coffee gives it a yummy, rich flavor.
