Do you ever wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror, and wish for the body you used to have? Almost everybody feels this way at one point or another. As busy moms, we are often last priority in our own lives. But rather than focusing on how out of shape you feel, do these things to make yourself feel better. Body positivity sounds like a “nice” concept. But in order to actually experience it, you have to encourage yourself to practice self-love, even when you’re simply not in the mood. Here are some easy ways to turn your frown upside down.
How to Feel Better When Feeling Out of Shape
Post Some Affirmations
You don’t need to look for praise from others (especially since most people see you WAY differently than you see yourself and don’t think you are out of shape at all). Post positive affirmations in your bedroom, hallway, or on your bathroom mirror. Make sure you stick to things like “you’re awesome,” or “You’re beautiful.” The key is to find some form of affirmation that you can look at every day that can help you counteract any negativity you might feel when you look at yourself. You are a babe.
Follow Body Positive People on Instagram
Instagram often gets a bad wrap as being a place for unhealthy comparison. But it can also be an amazingly inspiring place. I adore a gal named Alex Michael May. She’s a body positive influencer and is one of the most stylish people I’ve ever seen. Not only is she gorgeous and always well dressed. She is an absolute light in her Instagram stories. And she’s not the only one! Accounts like @psyougotthis and @any.body_co are fantastically uplifting!
Take a Time Out
Give yourself a minute to do something just for you. Don’t dwell on all the things you need to do for everyone else, or work or the holidays. Take a break to zone out and paint your nails. Maybe brew some tea and turn on the TV. Live it up! Painting my finger nails always makes me feel put together. So if my clothes aren’t fitting exactly like I’d like them too, at least I can feel stylish and accessorized with some pretty nails. We should make it a priority to be kind to ourselves, every day.
Put on Something that Makes you Happy
When I need a little mood lift, I always put on one of my grandmother’s necklace that I am truly fond of. No matter what I am wearing with it, it helps me to put a smile on my face. Maybe it’s a floppy hat or a special watch. When you are feeling out of shape, and the last thing you feel like doing is putting on clothes, put on that special piece that makes you smile.
Take Yourself On a Date
Shake off your negative mood by taking yourself out for a date. Go to the movies, or go hiking if you need a little serotonin fix. Take some time to get away from it all. You can even get dressed up if you want to. Even when you are feeling out of shape, there are things in your closet that make you feel good. For me, it’s my favorite leopard print boots, or my favorite black kaftan. Just getting out of the house and in to the sun can help stabilize your mood and help you fight off depression.
Your body can do so many things for you and your family! So no matter how you are feeling about the state of your body, no matter how out of shape you think you are, remember that your body is simply amazing!
I would love to be living my healthiest life. But I know, especially at this time of year, that trying to make all kinds of life changes to my already stressful holiday duties, is not ideal. Do what you can to stay positive and know that you can hit your health goals hard at the beginning of the year. And don’t forget, we are our own worst enemy. What we often perceive as our flaws, others don’t even notice.
You’re a babe. And don’t forget it.
