If my husband and I were in a sleeping contest, I would totally lose. He can sleep anywhere. I, on the other hand, can usually only fall asleep in my bed (no napping, just bed time). And even in my bed I sometimes find that I toss and turn all night. Once I started using essential oils for sleep, I found that I sleep more soundly and fall asleep a little easier. I know there are essential oil haterz out there and even if this just makes me think I’m sleeping better, I’m totally ok with that. And they smell good. So how can that be wrong?
My blend consists of equal parts calming blend (a blend made by one of the popular oil brands) and vetiver. Then I add a few extra drops of Roman chamomile (even though the calming blend has it included). Essential oils are not a cure, but they totally help me relax and fall asleep or back to sleep. I use a swipe of the roller ball blend on the bottom of each foot and then a dab on my left wrist before going to sleep. If I wake up in the middle of the night, and don’t immediately fall back to sleep, I will use another swipe on the bottom of my feet.
The calming blend includes a mix of lavender, sweet marjoram, Roman chamomile, ylang ylang, sandalwood and vanilla bean. This blend is pretty relaxing on its own. But there is something about vetiver that puts it over the top. It’s an earthy smell a bit like patchouli. It’s known as a natural tranquilizer and why it is perfect in a sleep time roller ball blend. You could also make this a bedtime mist instead of putting it in a roller ball for topical use. But I will warn you, one night, when I first got my oils, I put lavender on some dryer sheets and put them in various spots inside my pillow case because more is always better, right? No. It was TOO much. I was up all night until I fished the scented sheets out and threw them away. Then I was able to drift back off to sleep. So go easy.
I am able to sell essential oils (on account of the fact that my mom and I wanted to try most of the oils ourselves and became a dealer to be able to by them cheaper). So let me know if you want to try any oils, like the ones to make a sleep time blend, and I can get you sorted out. Essential oils for sleep are a great natural alternative to chemical sleep aids!
