Have you seen Cupcake Canned Wine in stores? My son asked me if I created this wine since it's half of my blog name. :) Boy, do I wish I had my own wine company! You know I'm a fan of canned wine. But it can be hard to know how the wine will taste. I've come up with 3 easy ways to serve canned wine if you don't love the flavor straight from the can.
This post is not sponsored. I just get really excited when new cans of wine are introduced! Weird, I know.
Cupcake Canned Wine is Out Now
Cupcake Vineyards just launched their newest product. I'm a big fan of canned wine and I think all the major brands should have them. They are a great, portable way to serve wine. Not that I usually drink it out of the can. But it's easy to take along when traveling or enjoying by the pool or other places where you shouldn't have glass.
The cans come in Sauvignon Blanc and Rose which are my two favorite varietals so this is great news for me. And they'll be perfect for summer sipping.
The cans come in 375 ml size which is basically half a bottle of wine. I love this size because, if I'm feeling like I want a glass of wine but don't want to open a bottle, I can just open a can instead. I waste less.
The Sauvignon Blanc is 13% alcohol by volume while the Rose is 12.5% alcohol. I don't usually pay attention to this but some people do.
Cupcake Canned Wine Review
Sauvignon Blanc is my go-to wine to drink. I really prefer wines that were made with grapes from New Zealand and the can, at least, says that this wine is. When I try canned wines, I like to sip straight from the can to get an initial impression and then I pour into a glass to let it open up and breathe.
Clearly, I am not a wine expert. But I do enjoy trying new things. Also, any descriptive words I use are what make sense to me and not me trying to be all wine snob-y.
The Sauvignon Blanc Cupcake Canned Wine is light in color and light in mouthfeel. It's tangy and I picked up a slight note of peach. Letting it sit for a minute in a glass makes it easier to drink. And this one is pretty good.
There have been a handful of canned wines that I've poured out after the first few sips but I would drink this whole can.
The Rose Cupcake Canned Wine is made with California wine. It tastes of Watermelon Jolly Ranchers and a little bit of citrus. Again, totally drinkable. I'm not sure I let this one sit out quite as long as I should have.
I didn't like this one as much as the Sauvignon Blanc but I'm a little pickier about my rose preferences. I am not a wine snob, I'm just particular and know what wines my mouth likes best.
Where to buy Cupcake Canned Wine
I checked two local grocery stores and a couple of stores when I was in Palm Springs to find the Cupcake Vineyards wine in cans and couldn't find it. I checked on the store locator they have on their site but it told me only 3 places within 25 miles of me had it.
I was about to give up and I decided I would double check a few more places just in case.
I ended up finding the Rose at my Target (they had a spot on the shelf for Sauvignon Blanc but it was sold out or not yet stocked). I found the Sauvignon Blanc at an Albertsons. Both of which were not noted on the website.
It's a new product that appears to still be rolling out so keep your eyes out when you're shopping and keep checking the site in case they update it.
3 Ways to Serve Cupcake Canned Wine
A wine spritzer is a great drink idea for so many reasons. Whether you are trying to drink less wine so you can drink longer or you don't love the wine you are drinking, a spritzer is a way to bring in more flavors that you like to create a yummy drink. This is the only way I can day drink – I am far too old drink full glasses of wine for a long period of time.
Rose And Sorbet
Sorbet is one of my favorite things to add to my wine. Sometimes you want a glass of wine and sometimes you want dessert. This is the best of both worlds. This raspberry sorbet paired really nicely with the Cupcake Canned Wine Rose by adding a sweetness that made it really lovely. It was also super fruity and refreshing.
Just two ingredients and you've got a dessert drink idea that couldn't be easier to make. Using a can of wine keeps it super simple for making just one serving or 2.
Like a single serving of sangria, these easy wine soaked strawberries are a delicious way to enjoy canned wine. Just let them soak overnight for the wine to soak up the flavor of the strawberries and for the strawberries to soak up the wine. Top with whipped cream and this turns into a dessert you'll want to share with your girlfriends.
Keep some canned wine on hand so you can make all of these yummy recipes!
