Christmas Shopping at The Shops at Mission Viejo
The mall is decked out in its holiday best which makes it so much fun! I grabbed a Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks to get even more in to the spirit. There are always people on our lists that are super hard to shop for. I decided to wander the mall and see what I could find for them. The Shops at Mission Viejo is full of great retailers that make it easy to get take care of your holiday shopping. You can find everything from stocking stuffers, show-stopping gift ideas and everything you need to wrap the presents (Papyrus has you covered!)
My favorite thing to do is park by the food court (if you get there a little before 10, when the mall opens, you can park really close. Then, when you are done shopping, you can grab lunch on the way out! It’s genius. Especially since the food court has the only Paradise Bakery in the area and it’s such a treat to grab a Walnut Chicken Salad sandwich and tropical iced tea on the way out! Ideas for your Mother-In-Law
Every mom-in-law relationship is different. So if you are constantly at odds with yours, or she’s extra hard to please, you may want to enlist the help of other family members or your husband. If you love your mother-in-law, like I do (mine is THE best), you probably have some great, thoughtful gift ideas already. The Shops at Mission Viejo makes it easy to shop for her! The key to shopping for moms of any kind is to buy them the things you know they would love but don’t buy for themselves.
This cardigan from J. Jill is perfect. It’s a great finishing piece that can be dressed up or down. Often, I find moms don’t buy items that are different from what they are used to or outside of their comfort zone. I like to find things, like this sweater, to change-up their look a little. I don’t veer too far from what they’d pick. But this is an unfussy new item that will make them look great!
Macy’s is also a great place to shop for moms. They have a big selection of gloves and scarves in awesome patterns and fabrics. They always have wonderfully soft robes and pajama sets. Several mall stores have ready-made gift sets to choose from, like L’Occtaine, which is a store that I know my mother-in-law would skip so she could buy the kids something from the Lego store instead. And while you don’t have to break the bank, look for little touches of luxury you can gift, like a satin pillowcase, from Z Gallerie. What to Buy for your Kid’s Teacher
Straight from my best friend, the kindergarten teacher, teachers love gift cards! I totally understand that. If everyone bought the teacher a candle, they’d end up with 30 candles. Who needs that! Try to be creative and pick up things that they can actually use. I like to buy either food items, like a Hickory Farms set, that they can serve to their guests during the holidays and doesn’t provide any extra clutter. The mall has a few great spots, like See’s Candy, Lolli and Pops, and Godiva, to pick up some sweet treats too!
Holiday decorations, like those shown in the above image from Z Gallerie, are also a great idea! Our family loves to add new pieces to our holiday collection each year. This is a fun way to spread some cheer to the teacher and her family, too. If you know your teacher a littler more personally, pick up things that go along with her interests. Do they like to travel or have a family holiday road trip planned? Pick up a cute small travel jewelry box (Z Gallerie has a cute one in a few sizes!)
Is she married? Pick up a gift card for a date night at one of the delicious dining options at The Shops at Mission Viejo like Cheesecake Factory, Islands or P.F. Changs. Encourage her to pamper herself with products from Aveda or Lush. Or give her the gift of comfort with a pair of Lululemon leggings. I never wear mine to work out…Gift Ideas for your Co-Worker
Chances are, if you are close with your co-workers, you’ll know exactly what to get them. But if you are stumped, put together a little gift basket. Try to put a little bit of thought in to it and pick up things that are practical and beautiful, like these candles from Madewell. I love that the candles are great smelling but also in beautiful vessels. Or theme the basket.
Are they a coffee lover? Pick up a special coffee mug, like one with their initial from Pottery Barn, and pair it with coffee grounds from Starbucks. Do they love to watch movies? Pick up a faux fur throw for them to snuggle up on the couch with which you can find at Macy’s, Pottery Barn or Z Gallerie and put it with a selection of candy from Lolli and Pops. Is there something that would make their work day more tolerable? Check out the great smelling lotions and stress relieving gum from Origins. Do they secretly wish they were a chef? Grab some delicious gifts from 41 Olive.
Or look for things that you know they like, but are a little bit upgraded. Splurge on them!
Dad and Husband Gift Ideas
My hubby is so hard to shop for! He’s very particular plus he buys himself what he wants or needs (within reason of course). He has virtually everything. So I like to look for things that he may not have tried before. Klarif is this super cool shop is an American cosmetics brand retailer that specializes in vegetarian & vegan skin, hair, and body care products that is full of natural skin care and fragrance. They have a few gift sets to choose from or you can choose individual items you think your guy would like. The packaging is cool and simple and I think it totally appeals to someone who may not be in to skin care (yet!).
My husband sticks with one brand of cologne but some times I think it is ok to try to find a new one he might like. The Icon fragrances at Banana Republic are amazing. They have several masculine scents that are totally wearable. He’s a big kid at heart so the mini foosball table from Z Gallerie is a great idea for him to play with the kids. If he’s a sports fan, grab him a Sportula, a team-themed spatula, from the kiosk. You can’t miss it. Or hit Sports Treasures for more team fun.
Grab some workout wear from Lululemon. It’s not just for ladies and my husband loves the pieces he already owns. This year, Santa’s set got a new makeover and it is full of Christmas cheer! It’s full of decked out trees and other amazing holiday decor. There are fun photo ops in the line in case there is a wait. It is the most festive spot in the mall! It’s the perfect place to take a picture with Santa Claus! Find him on the lower level, near Cheesecake Factory!
Santa’s Hours: Monday to Friday 10AM–9PM | Saturday 10AM–8PM | Sunday 11AM–6PM
And if you have a child with special needs who would benefit from a low sensory Santa experience, make a reservation for a Caring Santa photo-op on December 3 from, 9:00-10:30am, before the mall opens. Sign up online at simon.com/caringsanta .Of course I had to try some party looks on too! You can’t tell in the picture, but this dress is a fun, super sparkly silver number, from The Gap, that would be perfect for a New Year’s Eve party! Throw on some cute black booties, a faux fur vest and a chunky necklace from Banana Republic and I’m all set! Stuff your stockings in one mall trip! Old Navy has the softest and cutest socks that kids and adults both love. Stop by Sephora for a lip gloss or lip balm. Sweet Factory has awesome treats to delight the kids. Bath and Body Works has mini hand lotions. H&M has cute, small jewelry. I always tend to go overboard on the stockings! I found these kits at Lolli and Pops! Whether you are making these yourself or gifting to another family, it’s a great holiday activity! And, of course, you can’t go wrong with a gift card to The Shops at Mission Viejo! They make a great gift for anyone on your Christmas list! Pick them up from Guest Services!
If you are looking for something fun to do Saturday, December 2, the mall is hosting a fun holiday family festival with arts and crafts! Does your pet need a photo with Santa? Check out The Shops at Mission Viejo News and Events page for all the holiday fun!
