Back to school was a really big deal for our family this year. Not only do I now have an upper grader, which brings all kinds of new school activities, but I also have a first grader. My baby isn’t a baby anymore which means he is now in a full day of school. No more half-day kinder. Big time, big kid stuff. Do you know what else that means?? I have 6 hours to myself everyday… Hooray for back to school!
I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Panasonic. I received product samples as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation. The weekend before school started needed to be extra fun. We knew it would be a bit of an adjustment for the little one to be in school all day. So we headed to the bowling alley for a fun family afternoon out. My husband swears he’s going to be on a pro bowling tour some day and likes to show off his amazing bowling skills whenever he can. Luckily the boys love it too and we had a pretty fun time. How great is this shot?! I was able to catch it with my Panasonic Lumix G7.
There was really a hidden agenda to our bowling outing. My oldest son hates to have his long hair cut but we always get a trim before school starts. So I scheduled the appointment for after bowling hoping that the fun energy would continue on…It totally didn’t work. This was the before picture which he just barely tolerated. I took him up the street to a men’s barber shop and he barely spoke to me the whole time. Now to be clear, I would never cut all his hair off unless he wanted to. We only ever trim it (maybe up to an inch) in order to keep it healthy. But haircuts are pretty close to torture for him. The gal who did his hair was super sweet and I ended up asking her to cut more off since she was so careful to not take too much! He’s looking pretty happy in this photo but you should see some of the other ones! My youngest also had longish hair but he started asking to cut it all off. I didn’t want him to but I like that they have some control over their look. My husband decided to my younger son’s hair at home while I was at the appointment with my older son. I asked my husband to go in stages so that my son could stop him if he liked a certain length. I’m so glad we did it that way because he ended up not buzzing it like he said he wanted. Phew. Huge sigh of relief. I’m so lucky I thought to use one of the 4K photo modes to take his photo. He just wouldn’t stand still! I think he was excited about his hair cut! Or maybe it was the soda. And with the built-in wi-fi I could have immediately uploaded this image to Instagram. I know I’m biased, but that’s an Instagram worthy face, right there. I’m pretty sure the only reason my younger son wanted to cut his hair was because then he could use some gel we have called Gorilla Snot…But I thought both boys looked super handsome on their first day of school. And since I was running too late the morning of to print out a cute first day sign for them to hold, we just went with their good old fingers. Pinterest that. My oldest ended up in a class with all his best buddies so he was super happy to head in to class. My younger one, however, was a little more nervous. He wouldn’t leave my side until it was time to walk in to the room. Although we had our hands full that morning with lunch pails and school supplies, I had to bring along the G7. it is so much easier to tote around than a DSLR. And it’s much easier for the kids to handle too. I don’t let them take my cameras and run off, but when they ask to use them, I try to let them. My little guy asked to use it while he was waiting in line for class. I think it helped him relax a little and not think about the unknown of his full day ahead. We got some cool shots of some of the kids and some unflattering pictures of adults since shooting from below is NEVER a good idea…
But then do you know what happened??? I got to go out to lunch with 11 other moms from school to celebrate the first day of school. It was such a treat! And the camera fit in my handbag. I didn’t have to lug around a huge camera bag too. I love the lens I have on the camera now but they offer so many more should I decide I need to make a change. (note: I don’t always just toss my camera in to my purse but I can when my camera bag doesn’t match my outfit!)And then it was time for pick up. Both kids had a fantastic day and loved school. I was especially worried that the younger one wouldn’t want to go back the next day. But he was actually excited to go. It helps that he really likes his teacher. I think this school year is going to be awesome.
At the end of the first week of school I thought it would be super fun to have some friends and moms over for a fun pizza night and playing. The kids played outside and the moms sat in chairs and chatted about life. I love this photo. Doesn’t it look like the boys are doing synchronized skateboarding?
Summer might be over but our whole family is excited to be back at school. There are so many fun activities coming up and I can’t wait to capture all of the moments with my Panasonic Lumix G7. The camera made it super easy to find this action shot of my son, which he thinks is the coolest. The image is 8 megapixels so it’s super high quality and I was able to scroll through the up to 30 frames per second to get just the right picture.
We are so excited to keep learning all about the Panasonic LUMIX G7 and how to use the super cool 4K photo modes: 4K Pre-Burst, 4K Start/Stop and 4K Burst for all the different activities in our lives. Thank you for supporting the brands, like Panasonic, that allow me to share the fun moments our family has together.
