Do It : Pinterest

Give each Pinterest board a good description using keywords

As bloggers there are always so many things that we want to do but we run out of time for.  I’ve been wanting to organize my Pinterest boards for SO long but it just seems like it is the last priority.  So once a month, I am going to build in time to do these kinds of things.  All along I’m pinning tutorials, etc. but never take the time to read them.  So today I am taking the day to work on Pinterest.

But wait!  Are you following me on Pinterest?

I had run across an article a while back that instructed to make sure that all of your boards have a good description with keywords.  I went through my boards and realized that most of them had no description.  WHAT?!  We spend a lot of time trying to drive traffic to our sites and it comes down to doing it smarter and more efficiently.  So today I will be double checking my descriptions.
Make sure you have the right category picked for each board on PinterestThe article also mentioned making sure the boards were categorized.  Uh, oops.  They were all over the place or just uncategorized.  Now I know when I’m creating a new board that these things need to happen right away.

Being a late adopter of Pinterest I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do.  Here are some of the articles I will reading today:

Important Pinterest tips you need to know as a blogger.

Secrets to rapid Pinterest growth by bloggers.

How to embed a Pinterest board on your blog.

10 ways to keep your Pinterest clean and organized.

How to organize your Pinterest boards.

5 ways to get more blog traffic from Pinterest.

You can find more great blog business articles right here.  Next month I’m going to look at starting a newsletter.

Please feel free to leave your Pinterest tips in the comments section or the link to a great article.  Oh! and your pinterest link so I can follow you!

Alt Summit is rocking my blog world

alt summit logo for SLCSo who else is going to Alt Summit in January??? I’m so freaking excited I can hardly stand it!  I can’t wait to be absolutely inspired.  Not only by the content but all the people who are attending, speaking,  and cavorting around.  But the coolest part about this conference is that all the stuff that I am excited about is available now!  Alt has really stepped up their game and brought on some amazing people to grow their content and really provide some outstanding learning opportunities for all bloggers.  Not just those who have a sought after ticket to the conference.

The Blog:

I mean.  Have you checked it out lately?  The content is insane.  Covering everything from hairstyles that work best for profile pictures to how to work as a freelancer.  I’m excited to check out the topics each day.  It is really good stuff.  There is also a chatroom so you can get all your conference questions answered, like how many business cards should I bring?

The Classes:

If you haven’t taken any of the classes on the Alt Channel you HAVE to!  Most classes are $15 but each month Bing sponsors a few classes so they can be given for FREE!  I’ve taken several and they are outstanding.  They offer tons of learning on various topics but also a really cool small networking opportunity to interact with the others taking the classes.  I’m scheduled to take at least 2 classes this month and I look forward to when they announce next months classes.  Some of them go very quickly so I like to sign up early!

The Instagram:

Did you know that Alt Summit is on Instagram?!  It is awesome.  You must follow them (@altsummit).  Each week they are trying to post a prompt and have people post along with them.  Full disclosure:  I’ve been asked to help them promote their Instagram efforts but to be honest, I would be telling you all about it anyway.  Last week, and continuing on this week, the prompt is #shareyoursecrets where we are sharing secrets about anything and everything to do with blogging and our online work.  I shared my blog editorial calendar (follow me at @cupcakescutlery) that helps to keep me on track with everything.  @altsummit shared my graphic design secret of scanning fabric to use it in Illustrator.  You can follow along by searching the hashtag #inspiredbyalt and feel free to post your own secrets and remember to use the hashtags so we can all find them!

The Pinterest:

Alt Summit is also on Pinterest.  Their boards are amazing and cover everything from Fall, DIYs, Shoes and more!  Take some time and browse around.  I get to post my fave finds to some of the boards so go look at what I think you guys might like.

So even if you are not attending the conference in SLC in January you can still get in on the Alt fun!  And huge thanks to Bing for being an amazing sponsor and providing such awesome free content!

This is not a sponsored post.  These are all my opinions and I love Alt.

A Safari Baby Shower by Operation Shower, Pottery Barn Kids and, well, me!

Sunshine Safari Printables by Paper and Cake

You guys!!  I’m super excited to be able to share some info about an amazing event that is coming up.  I’m still sort of in a dreamlike state about it.  I’ve been wanting to help out at an Operation Shower (you know, the group that puts on AMAZING baby showers for military families around the US?) and learned a few months ago that I would be able to when they came to San Diego.  I was ready to do whatever they needed.  If they asked me to unwrap 5,000 straws I’d do it in a heartbeat.  If Amy wanted me to walk around holding her hair in to a make shift ponytail because she forgot a hair band I totally would have done it.  But then I was asked to design a table!!!!  The coolest part?  A bunch of other bloggers (like, legit bloggers:  Hostess with the Mostess, The TomKat Studio, Sweets Indeed, Thoughtfully Simple, A Blissful Nest… the list goes on and on!) were also asked to design tables! For this Operation Shower each table will be designed by a different party gal but all of them will be based on the amazing printables designed by Abigail of Paper and Cake shown above.  I can’t wait to see how they all come out!!

Animal Banks from Pottery Barn Kids

May I blow your mind a little bit more?  This time around, Pottery Barn Kids is heavily involved in the shower (something tells me that is going to end well for the mom’s being pampered at the shower).  The fine, kind folks at Pottery Barn Kids have just introduced some new products, including, but not limited to, a safari theme.  They are very generously letting all of us use some pieces in each tablescape!  How rad is that??!

Canvas Wall Art by Pottery Barn Kids

You definitely need to go check out the new stuff online at Pottery Barn Kids and then you should make sure you are following the Pinterest board they set up for all of those involved in Operation Shower to pin to.  It has been a fun way to keep tabs on what the other designers are looking at and will be exciting to see if their tables turn out anything like what they have pinned.

Let me know if you need an invite to Pinterest!

Do not expect much blogging from me this week.  I am in full party prep for my son’s bday next weekend.  Then in the middle of the week I will be watching 5 children for 3 days with overnights and school drop offs, pick ups, meals, baths, the works.  I’m a little anxious about it but I’m sure I’ll be fine.  Gulp, right??

I wish all of you a fantastic new year!
