New Garland from The Flair Exchange and Facebook Giveaway!

Black and White kid's room decor with pops of red and orange. // www.cupcakesandcutlery.comDon’t you love this garland?!  My pal Carmen, of The Flair Exchange, just launched the Cross + Plus Garlands in her fab shop!  I’m in love.  I’ve been toying with the idea of hosting super simple giveaways over on my Facebook page.  No jumping through hoops.  Just leaving a comment.  Simple as that.  Carmen graciously offered to give away one of her newest garland creations.  So one of you can be the lucky winner!

The Flair Exchange has a new Cross and Plus garland that I love! // www.cupcakesandcutlery.comThis little guy was pretty excited when I told him that we got to put the garland up in his room.

Cool boy's room decor. // www.cupcakesandcutlery.comI’ve seen some kid’s rooms on Pinterest where they have garlands jauntily placed around the room and I loved how it looked.  But I wasn’t that in to any of the garlands.  Carmen told me she had a new product coming out that she thought I would love.  She was totally right!  And I knew instantly this would be worthy of hanging on the walls.

This black cross garland is perfect for decorating a cool kid's room. // www.cupcakesandcutlery.comThe shape is so simple and graphic and I adore that she did it in black!  It went with the art already hanging in his room perfectly.

Black cross garland for cool kid's room decor. // www.cupcakesandcutlery.comBut of course this will also be perfect for parties.  I am sure that I will take it out of the bedroom so it can be a special guest star for upcoming party decor.  And this might sound really silly, but the string that she uses (the crosses are made out of a nice, thick cardstock) is fantastic!  It is thick and sturdy and is the perfect proportion for the size of the crosses.  I’m somewhat of a string connoisseur (nerd alert) and I noticed it the moment I pulled the garland out of the package.

Black and white art for kid's room with pops of color. // www.cupcakesandcutlery.comI bet you are already starting to think about all the different places you can hang this, aren’t you.

Love this new cross garland from The Flair Exchange. // www.cupcakesandcutlery.comYou can always head to Carmen’s site to purchase one of for yourself or you can head over to my Facebook page to win one!  BTW, Carmen’s blog is one of the best resources for cocktails out there.  For real.

PEOPLE Magazine Giveaway Winner!

PEOPLE Magazine on NewsstandThank you to everyone who entered the PEOPLE Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive contest with Kroger!  Especially at this time of year, PEOPLE Magazine recognizes that we get extra busy but they want to remind you to take a minute for yourself.  I don’t need to be told twice.  And while this is issue has far less male eye candy than the Sexiest Man Alive issue, it does have a centerfold of Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt PEOPLE Magazine CenterfoldCan we talk for a moment about how pretty Mr. Pitt is?  The checker at my Ralph’s saw him on the cover and commented, “He seems to be getting younger.”  She’s not kidding.  He is still years away from being a distinguished silver fox and he’s dang near 50 years old!  PEOPLE Magazine has a way of getting celebs to open up and candidly share the gossip that we want to know.  I love that!

Gabby's PEOPLE Magazine articleI love that PEOPLE Magazine knows just who we, the American people, love and want to know about.  Gabby is totally America’s sweetheart.  This is the kind of news that I need.  I need the feelings, how it felt to win a medal.  Not the sordid, “my toes are wonky and I don’t get to see sunlight” that other publications feel compelled to share.

Pecan PieI am simply in LOVE with the ‘Great Ideas’ section of the magazine.  The recipes are always relatively easy, styled amazingly well and tout the celebrity chefs that share them.

Crossword in PEOPLE MagazineAnd I’m not sure if it makes me feel really smart or really dumb, but I can’t stop myself from trying my hand at the Puzzler.  I don’t stand a chance at the ones in traditional newspapers.  But pop culture trivia, I stand a fighting chance.

Style Watch Gift GuideWhile I love the Style Watch section in every issue, this one in particular is my fave.  I look forward to holiday gift guides all year long.  This Style Watch guide has some amazing finds, including items that are totally affordable.  I’m hoping that this will help me wrap up my holiday shopping.  I mostly have adults to buy for so there are plenty of ideas in here for me.  On another note, how great is Nashville?  I didn’t get in to it right at the start of the series but I’m really enjoying it!  I’m totally NOT in to country music but I like what they have done with the music on the show to not alienate me.  But since I like it that means it will probably be cancelled.  Sorry in advance.

Enjoying PEOPLE MagazineSometimes you just have to sit down, ignore the toys pooled at your feet, and take a second for yourself with your PEOPLE Magazine.  I hope that the winner of the giveaway will do just that!!!!

Yeah for Blanca!!!  I’ll be emailing you to get your mailing info!!  Thank you to everyone who entered PEOPLE Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive contest!

Old and New Christmas Traditions and A Rad Giveaway

Slovak Christmas Eve DinnerChristmas is the time of year where old and new traditions come together, and more often than not, they involve food.  As an adult it can be tricky to find the balance between what used to be and what is now.  It is important to value family traditions from the past but also create new ones so that everyone has a happy holiday.

I’ve known my husband since junior high school so when we started dating right after college, I was quickly added in to the family holidays.  His grandmother is Slovak and so is her Christmas Eve tradition.  The meal is made up of dishes that I had never heard of and included pretty much every food that I don’t like (mushrooms, peas, coleslaw, fish, rare meat…) but I eat it.  Because that is what you do.  They graciously cook my meat so that it isn’t bloody and for that I am eternally grateful.  And I happen to actually like the pupacky (pictured above).  They are little dough balls mixes with a syrupy poppy-seed glaze.

Wine CakeChristmas day is where I get to create my own food traditions.  My parents come over Christmas morning and we enjoy a really yummy breakfast.  Last year we made homemade donuts but the kids didn’t like them enough to make them this year.  This year we plan to try out an overnight french toast recipe.  Maybe that will stick.  Either way, it is certainly fun to try out new things.  One recipe I will make every year is Wine Cake (above – recipe link in this post – look for the picture of the powdered sugared heart).  When I first tasted it, it screamed “Christmas” to me.  And I think I may be the only person to eat it.  But I look forward to it so it’s staying.  Christmas dinner is all the yummy holiday foods that my husband and I want but don’t get on the other holidays which we spend at other family member’s homes.  It’s cheese potatoes, green beans and bacon, honey baked ham, rolls with bacon brown-sugar butter, anything and everything we want.  What are your holiday food traditions?  How do you balance new and old traditions?

KitchenAid Mixer and KeurigA wonderful group of bloggers has gotten together to giveaway an amazing prize, just in time for the holiday season!  You can enter to win a KitchenAid 5 Quart Tilt Head Artisan Series Stand Mixer (in whatever color you choose) or a Keurig Platinum.  How rad is that?!  The contest runs from Monday, November 26, 2012 – December 1, 2012 at 12:01 am.  Simply use the Rafflecopter below to enter!  Good luck!
