Craft with the Bloggers was SO fun!

Craft with the BloggersA few weeks ago I hosted a really fun Valentine’s Day craft event with Kelly, Lauren and Chelsea at Crafted at the Port of LA.  It turned out awesome and it was super fun to see people making our crafts.

hanging balloon valentinesThese are the samples I hung of the balloon Valentine’s.  I forgot to bring my camera so instead of making you scroll through a bunch of just ok iPhone pics (you know, like my last few posts during events) I decided to just swipe a few from Chelsea and then direct you to their recaps.  :)  I really enjoyed working with these gals and I hope we get to do something fun like this again soon!  BIG thank you to Crafted for having us.  If you haven’t been yet, you should totally check it out! And a really big thank you to all the people who came out and made crafts with us!

PR 201 for Bloggers by Kismet PR: Event Recap

kismet pr at e madisonYou guys!!!  I am so pumped that our first Kismet PR class was such a success!  The tickets sold out, we had some amazing sponsors and holding it at E Madison was the best idea ever!

food area at kismet pr Lyndsey took care of all the content for the class and I focused on planning it.  While I party plan for my family, I’ve never wanted to plan other people’s social events.  I have thought about producing larger scale events in the future so this was a great opportunity to get my feet wet and get some real experience.  I was able to use my relationships with local businesses and PR companies I have worked with on various blogging projects to put on a nice little class.  I first need to start with E Madison.  They could not have been more accommodating.  They set up the area for the class and even facilitated a plasma screen rental for the class presentation.  And to top it off, they offered the gals a discount on merchandise.  I can’t wait to host another event there!  Next let’s turn to Meringue Bake Shop.  Most of you know the amazing Push Cakes and cupcakes that Kristin creates.  But she is SO much more than that I was so excited to share this side of her with the class.  With her food and the gorgeous styling by Lauren, our eyes and stomachs were super happy.

food and drink at e madison for kismet prBecause the class was scheduled to begin around dinner time, Kristin wanted to make sure that everyone would be full and able to focus on the class.  She made the most amazing bread salad with ham and fontina cheese.  I’m really hoping she will share the recipe with you all!!!  I’m dying to make it again.  She also made a smoked salmon dip served with bagel chips, and served goat cheese, arugula and tomato on crostini.  As a sweet treat, she brought some of her mini pies (if I only had to eat Kristin’s pies for the rest of my life, I would be so happy) and a new favorite, glitter cookies.  You guys.  I really wish you could all taste the glitter cookies.  Total melt in your mouth amazingness.  The spread was rounded out snacks provided by SunChips and drinks provided by Izze.

Salted Caramel CoffeeAs the class went on, Kristin wowed us with some salted caramel coffee.  Yup.  SO good!!

lyndsey teaching kismet pr blogger classLyndsey brought it!    I learned a ton about working with PR companies and the process of pitching ideas to them.  Now I just need ideas to pitch…The class was about 3 hours with a break midway through for refreshments, questions, mingling etc.  The format was great.  It was casual and free flowing where she followed her set presentation but would take questions or comments any time.

bloggers at workI especially liked that she gave us an exercise to do during class.  I’m sure I am not the only person who learns better when actually doing something personally so to have that opportunity was awesome.  This is one of the reasons that Lyndsey likes to keep the classes small.  When we finished, whoever wanted to could run it by Lyndsey to get her feedback on how we interpreted her information.

kismet pr gift bag itemsI don’t know why I enjoy a good gift bag so much, but I really do.  I reached out to some great brands to contribute items and think this gift bag turned out awesome!!!  The bags included a recipe by a local cooking instructor, Jenny Warner, Lauren sewed and painted these awesome bags with social media phrasing on them, each person was given a free class of yoga or pilates at The Sweat House, JR Watkins sent their lemon creme lotion (have you smelled this?!  It’s so good!), SunChips gave every participant a bag of chips and recipe booklet, Tera Rae Stephens sent over hand-made hair ties, Skin So Sweet supplied information on their amazing facials and other services,  ShopModerne.com sent shirts for everyone and a discount code for more online shopping, Yasso gave everyone coupons for free frozen greek yogurt bars, Lauren made super cute gift tags with her fantastic calligraphy, Lyndsey provided branded note pads, and Tiny Prints is providing each student a coupon code for free business cards.  Boom.

A huge thank you to Lyndsey for letting me be involved in this great workshop!  Thank you to each and every sponsor that participated and, of course, thank you to all the students who came!!  We are gauging interest on holding another class in the spring as well as one in San Diego.  If you are interested in finding out more about future classes, please email me so I can put you on the list – cupcakesandcutlery at gmail dot com.

Acquired Taste Art Show at Cal State Fullerton

I am super excited for this coming Saturday!  There is a pretty rad art show kicking off at Cal State Fullerton (class of 1999 baby!).  The show is called Acquired Taste:  Food and the Art of Consumption and is all about food, how we consume it, what we consume and how it consumes us.  The show is curated by Alyssa Cordova and Heather Richards of Sixpack Projects
But here is why I am SO excited about it.  This will be the first time I get to see any work by my idol Jennifer Rubell (art installations/social commentary using food, best selling cookbook author {seriously – this is one of my all time faves!}, hotelier…) in person.  I’m not going to get all stalky and gushy in this post, I’ll save that for later.  This post is about the upcoming show.  There are 13 different artists being featured and I can’t wait to attend and learn more about their work!!!
The show starts Saturday, October 29 and runs through December 8th.  The opening reception (Oct. 29) is open to the public and along with the what is sure to be thought provoking and hunger inducing art there will be a bunch of other interactive events.  A cooking demonstration by chef Jonathan Dye will feature recipes he created based on some of the work in the show.  There will also be a participatory mural art project, and a lecture by artist in residence Gregory Stewart.  As if that wasn’t enough, Delilah Snell of Backyard in Jar will be there in her vintage Volkswagen van, hopefully selling her ridiculously delicious preserves!  I’m such a fan of her products!
Don’t miss it!!!
Acquired Taste:  Food and the Art of Consumption
October 29th – December 8th
Begovich Gallery at California State University, Fullerton
800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, CA  (just north of Nutwood Ave.)
Opening Reception is October 29th, 2011 from 5 – 8 pm.

Mission Accepted! The Secret Style Suite Party by Mom’s Fashion File

Not only did Mom’s Fashion File put on an amazing day of makeovers for 12 of us very grateful bloggers, but they also through a party that night as well!  The view was stunning from the Elevation Suite at the Hard Rock Hotel and everyone came dressed to impress.  There were delicious cocktails using Ciao Bella Gelatos and Sorbets.  There was an area showcasing the newest Stokke products (love, love, love the designs!).  There was a bright and cheery candy bar courtesy of Plum District and yummy drinks from Trop50.  Those adorable ladies at the top right are the amazing crew from Mom’s Fashion File.  And the lovely ladies near the bottom right are some of my fave OC ladies, Jen of Tiny Oranges and hair expert, Tera Rae Stephens.
Speaking of Plum District, have you signed up yet?  I know there are a ton of deal sites out there but Plum District is fast becoming a favorite of mine.  You already know how it works, you get an email sharing deals in your area, but what makes Plum District extra special is that their deals are geared towards moms.  I have bought several deals already and have been tempted on dozens more.  And the website is just really pretty.  And that goes a long way with me.
I got a few more minutes with Cheryl at the party but still feel I need more time with her.  She’s freaking funny.  And there is my sweet Amy (and of Operation Shower).  I did get to pal around with her at the party and she helped me calm my nerves about the fashion show I had to take part in!  Yup, a fashion show.  Um, I may come off extroverted but I really don’t like the spotlight (which you probably aren’t buying because of the amazing amounts of photos I’ve posted of myself lately – but its true!)
The top left is me trying to act natural, like I always twirl around on a pink carpet in front of a huge group and camera lights.  Cut to super fake smile, trying to be casual and charming while pretending that no one is looking at me.  And finally the group shot (or group shot where I looked cutest but half the girls are cut out) of the rest of the makeover winners.  And scene.  Sigh of relief.  It took all of 2 minutes but had my heart racing.
At the end of the party, these amazing woven bags were handed out courtesy of Plum District.  They were filled with goodies like Johnson and Johnson products, coupons and recipes for Ciao Bella and so much more!
It was the perfect way to wrap up the awesome experience that was my makeover.  If you missed that post, go here
Mom’s Fashion File is a collaboration of bloggers who are moms, are cool and know their stuff.  If you aren’t a regular reader, you should go ahead and start now.  They are like your cool best friend recommending the best items for your family.
