This post was sponsored by Skinnygirl as part of an Influencer Activation. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review. If I was a rapper, my name would be SnaxZ. I love snacks. They are my total weakness. If I don’t have time for a meal during the day, I turn to convenience foods to get me through. Or if I’m running late, I’ll grab a whole bag of chips to take in the car with me. Pretty soon, I’m at my destination, covered in crumbs with an empty bag in my lap. It’s not a good look. And I feel bad about it. I do the best with staying on a healthy path if I put a little forethought in to it. But it has to be easy. Once in a while I might prep veggies to grab for on-the-go, but I always get bored with that and then fall back in to old habits. I think I finally some smart snacking systems in place. Today I’m sharing my smart snacking tips with you so you can feel good about your choices too. Now step away from the cheese puffs…
How great is that?! It is a decanter full of my favorite candy! As you know, my birthday was this month. I got some ridiculsouly amazing gifts this year including a plane ticket to see my favorite band play in Reno, NV., a book on how the President’s partied throughout history (like who was in to the ale and who practically invented cocaine) and my husband hired a manicurist to come to my house and do pedicures for me and my friends. But this gift was the most thoughtful ever and I had to share it with you. I LOVE Nerds in a borderline, not-okay way. So when Lauren showed up with a decanter full of them, consider my mind blown. Of course I love that it is my fave candy but also that I can reuse the decanter for my favorite liquor. But I think I need to just keep it filled with Nerds. Before I used to eat WAY too many from the king size boxes. But this way I can pour some in to a bowl (it’s far too heavy to pour straight in to your mouth. Not that I tried that…) and keep an eye on your serving size.
She brought it all cute with some other amazing gifts in a wooden tray. But you could easily bring just the decanter filled with your friend’s favorite candy and be a gift giving super hero. Thank you again, Lauren! You sure knew how to sweeten my day. Get it…Groan.

I don’t even remember where I found Reed’s Ginger Candy Chews but I am obsessed! These are phenomenal. They are a touch sweet, a bit spicy and have a real ginger flavor. I spoke of my love for Reed’s Ginger Beer here so of course I had to try these. Now I just need to track them down since I have only two left. Two!
I got a chance to read my newest Nylon the other day and every time I read an article on Jessica Alba, I like her a little more. I loved learning more about her role in her company (Honest). This article talks about how hands on she is in all aspects including choosing colors for make up. I loved that she voiced her opinion on the lip colors not being right, which is due in part to the natural materials used to create them. She’s not willing to put out a product that no one really wants to wear. She’s the perfect mix of every woman (except she’s, like, extra gorgeous) and advocate for the health of our families. And that is pretty cool.
A few weeks ago my mom brought over all of my grandmother’s old costume jewelry. I finally took a few hours to sort through it all and it was amazing. My grandmother was always put together with the perfect accessories. And she loved to travel so there are several handmade items from many of the places she visited. While I might not wear all of it (but trust, there are some AMAZEBALLS pieces), they will remain treasured memories of a lady I miss very much.
My husband recently brought home some awesome Earth Tu Face products to try out. You guys, this stuff is crazy natural and awesome. It was started by two herbalists who make 100% natural skin care only using plant based products. All of their packaging is recyclable, reusable and compostable. And the smells! While there are no added scents, the ingredients used create these amazing scents! I’ve always been afraid to use an oil based cleanser since I have oily skin. But I decided to give it a shot. It has been great. I’ve certainly not broken out like I thought I would and I feel like my forehead isn’t quite as shiny as it was before I started using the Earth Tu Face face wash. The Rosemary Salt lotion feels wonderful. And I love the smell of rosemary so that is a win for sure. I haven’t tried all of these products out yet but I plan to! And I think you should too.
You may have seen my instagram post but this Skin Stick is my fave! It is an all-purpose salve for wherever you need it. I’ve mainly been using it on my lips so far but with the geranium and vetiver, I really should be rubbing this thing all over my face. Geranium prevents and fades scarring (hello – dumb skin cancer scars, consider yourself warned!) and the vetiver promotes cellular healing. Duh. We could all use that. And I don’t want to offend any hippies but when I wear this on my lips, it smells like a hippie is dancing on my face. It’s musky and warm while being calming and hydrating. I definitely have hippie tendencies and this totally appeals to them. I keep this in the drawer next to my bed and put it on just before I go to sleep. It is the perfect way to end the day.
And I have to say that it doesn’t suck when your husband works for a sunglass company. These are so fun to be able to mix and match with my outfits. And since it is mostly sunny in California, year round, I need sunglasses. All of these are by IVI Vision.
And have you guys seen these?! I saw these Whoppers Easter Robin Eggs Decorate Your Own Eggs
at the grocery store and had to get them. My boys love this kind of stuff. They came with three edible markers and a bunch of plain white eggs. This was a great little snack and craft for us one afternoon. I picked them up at my local Albertson’s but haven’t seen them anywhere else. I hope you can find them. These were very well received by the kiddos.
This wine. So yummy. I had gotten a bottle of this white and a red from Saarloos and Sons in a silent auction gift basket from my son’s preschool. I didn’t know too much about the company so the bottles have just been hanging around. Well, the other night I decided it was time for the white to get chilled. I’m a Sauvignon Blanc kind of gal. And I’m not totally sure how these two wines stack up against each other. But I can tell you this. I opened the bottle, and on first sip, I hated it. It was one of those days so I decided I’d drink the glass but I left the bottle on the counter with the intention of dumping it out that night. But something about the second sip got me. And I began to really enjoy the glass. I went and put the bottle in the fridge and drank the rest of the bottle over the next few nights. Turns out I REALLY like this wine. Maybe the first sip just wasn’t what I was expecting but I’m glad I continued to drink it. And now I want to go to their tasting room and drink more. Lots more. And go read their story. Super cool.
These hearts are one of my favorite candies. And I only eat them at Valentine’s Day. They really are just Gobstoppers. And they used to even come in the normal Gobstopper colors but within the last few years, they have changed them to be only pink, red and white. I realize that they are Gobstoppers and I can eat them all year long, but there is something about waiting for them to arrive in stores that makes me love them even more. My sister and I always by them for each other. And once that bag (or two) is gone, that is it until next year. Have you ever tried these?
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen me post about this the other night. I am super proud of my friend, Erika, for following a passion of hers. She, just recently, decided to do extra work and start acting. She was over the other night and I got to see her in an episode of Cougar Town and it was amazing. I’m so excited to see where she takes it and know that she is doing what she loves. I am lucky to know this gal and look forward to seeing her in more things!!
So I’ve been married for 10 years now. My husband hardly ever cooks. So color me surprised when he decided to make us pancakes one morning. We liked them so much he has taken to making them for us on the weekends. So fun! Food really does taste better when you don’t have to cook it.
I’m totally in love with my new phone case. I got an iPhone 5 for Christmas so I had to get a new case. This gator skin case by Blair Ritchey found in Meg Biram’s shop is so great. I love everything about it. It looks like it is sold out but they do have it in olive which would also be super cool.
HVD guys! I hope your day is filled with romance and yummy sweet treats. Daddy’s of boys, training begins now. Teach them what it means to be a good husband by example. No sexy time needed. Wash a dish, maybe?
*We will return to our regularly scheduled ‘Dirty Side of Blogging‘ next week.
Ladies. We are just 2 days away from Valentine’s Day. It’s crunch time for the men in your life. Forward this to any man you know who could use some tips for shopping for their significant others. And feel free to add your own tips in the comment section. Let’s help husbands and boyfriends give better gifts! (Really this post is just suggesting they put some thought and a little effort).
Valentine’s Day is in two days. Do you know how you will celebrate it with your wife or girlfriend? P.S. bookmark this site for future occasions (Do you even know when your anniversary is? Her birthday? The first time you held hands? HOT TIP: you will get even more brownie points for doing any one of these things for no reason at all. Here is how to buy last minute gifts for your wife or girlfriend.
First off, use your noodle. You need to think for a moment about how your woman is. Would she scoff at, what some might consider to be, smaller gifts, then this post is not for you. Grab your wallet and head to your nearest luxury department store. Buy a $400 pair of sunglasses, have them wrap them up for you and you are set. But if your gal likes you to put a little bit of thought in to the gift, read on.
My husband and I decided early on in our marriage that the only real gifts that we would buy for each other, each year, would be birthday and Christmas. We will potentially enjoy a nice meal out for our anniversary but we feel we have a lot of nice things already and don’t need any more stuff. Depending on how your significant other is, choose one or more of these items to gift her.
If your gal likes to have a cocktail, grab a bottle of bubbly, something that most people do not splurge on or buy for themselves. The Veuve is a nice, recognizable bottle and crowd (in this case, your lady friend) pleaser. In my opinion, it is far better to purchase gifts that fit in to your price range than just trying to impress someone (who knows how much you really make). So if you can’t swing the $40 bottle, look for the La Marca. It is an Italian prosecco, $12-$14, and tastes delicious. But how much effort does grabbing a bottle of alcohol really take? Consider adding on an auxiliary gift. The auxiliary gift can be inexpensive but should be something that either goes with the drink you are giving or be something that the gal would love. These leopard print coasters actually came from the Dollar Tree. Remove all packaging and tie up with string. Simple.
Socks?! You say. Yes, socks. Browse the internet for a humorous saying to go on the gift tag or use the old stand by, “cold feet, warm heart” or say something about snuggling. While socks are a practical item, there are some really fun, design forward pairs out there. You can’t go wrong with Stance socks. You can find these at most of your local skate or surf shops including the larger chains like Zumiez. Look for pairs that remind you of her. Pick a flower from the garden to give along with one -3 pairs of socks and get ready for a hug.
Store bought flowers are totally ok. This particular bouquet came from Wal-Mart. But she doesn’t have to know that. Most women like their men to put in a little bit of effort to make them feel special. This was seriously the tiniest bit of effort. First, remove the store-bought wrapping. Then cut part of a paper grocery sack, wrap it around the stem and wind some pink nylon string (found at both Home Depot and Lowe’s) around it. How easy is that?
Does your gal have a sweet tooth? Chances are you know a few of her favorite candies. This box was from the Target dollar bin. All you have to do is repackage things to make them look like you spent time on it, even if you really didn’t. She likes something salty instead? Take a moment to look around for a larger divided container (perhaps in the home decor or kitchen areas – even a divided dish would work) and fill with savory snacks. Add a note that says something about her being sweet and you are totally getting lucky tonight.
This one is especially great for women with children. Sometimes the best gift for a mom is getting some time by herself. It might seem tacky to just hand her some cash but hear me out. Most women love to get pedicures. And there are little nail places all around town. Chances are, she has a favorite. She may have even mentioned it to you before. But wait, was it Lucky Nail, Nail Lucky, Happy Nails…the chances of you getting that one wrong are high. Tell her that you know how much she does for the family and that you want her to go pamper herself. The fact that you be taking care of the kids and planned this out will show her that you care and she will be beyond excited. And she will have the choice of where to go. Nail places are not created equal. Are you seeing some gifts or combos of gifts that might work for the lady in your life?
This last suggestion is not something for last-minute purchases but will surely help you on your gift giving journey. Suggest that your gal pal make a “wish list” board on her pinterest. You can look at this like a personal gift registry. You can ask her to begin pinning things that she would like to get as gifts from you or even others. Then whenever you need to, you can check out her list and potentially buy them straight from the link. What is also cool about this is that it still leaves a little bit of the surprise factor for her when opening gifts. Do you see that, up there? I have 40 things on my wish list so I would never be able to guess what things I might get. I’m sure she will happily show you how to navigate to that board (but you really should bookmark it or save it as your home page).
I hope this has helped you learn how to give gifts to your significant other. All we really want is a little thought and effort to know that you care.
