I am an indie rock music lover. Specifically classic alternative and first wave. First wave is probably my all time favorite sound in music. I can’t really even explain what makes something first wave other than it’s classic and awesome. Sometimes the songs are moody, sometimes they are super happy and poppy and I love every single one of them. In summer, I go back and forth between classic rock and first wave. So I put together an indie rock playlist focusing on my fave First Wave songs. It’s a long one because how do you edit down these amazing songs?! You don’t. You listen to all of them. And you listen to them loud. These are perfect for dance parties with your kids. Or hanging out by the pool. These songs are nostalgic for me. We always listened to top 40 radio growing up. Then in 5th and 6th grade, my best friend’s older brother started playing cooler music. And I took notice. One day I asked him to make me some tapes of what he liked. They included things like Depeche Mode and Dead Milkmen and deeper cuts of some of the bands you heard once in a while on the radio. And I was hooked. I am so grateful that he took the time to make a pesky little kid mixed tapes. That is partially why I feel the need to share all kinds of music with my kids. While I feel connected to this kind of music, I know there is something the my kids will respond too as well. For instance, my little guy enjoys reggae and we see him grooving to bluesy jams. If you are following along with my New Music Monday playlists, last week’s was be an abridged version of First Wave. I’m not sure where I’ll keep my archived playlists for this series but I will update this as soon as I figure it out!
