*My family was treated to an afternoon of water-ific fun at the new Buccaneer Cove at Boomers in Irvine. All opinions are mine.
To say the boys were excited about getting to try out the new Buccaneer Cove area at Boomers in Irvine was an understatement. They couldn’t wait to get there. We first heard about the new water slide area when we were playing miniature golf at Boomers right after school ended for summer. And, of course, you can see the brightly colored slides right from the 405 freeway. They couldn’t wait to see what it was all about.
Buccaneer Cove has a huge water play area in the center of the enclosed park which is surrounded on one side by cabanas and chairs and on the other side by the water slide tower. The cabanas need to be reserved ahead of time but are a really great idea for those of you who want or need to be in a bit of shade. It was easy to watch little kids play in this area, but be warned it is very easy to get wet here and if you need to chase after your kids for any reason, you most certainly will have to go directly through this area. So wear a suit! Even if you aren’t planning to get wet. You will.
There are 5 water slides, one of which is perfect for toddlers and smaller kids. You must be 36″ tall to ride the other four slides. 3 are covered and 1 is open air. There are no “pool” at the bottom of the slides so being a strong swimmer is not necessary. There are also several workers operating the slides and they are really great about safety and getting kids out of the way of the next rider. I was pretty impressed with them.
My kids started off slow. They were hesitant to get wet. You know how some kids are water lovers? My kids are not. My youngest gravitated towards the puddles, shuffling his feet around. But he finally managed to have a lot of fun in this shaded, shower-y area.
And after he went down the slide once, he asked for his towel and said he was done. What?! Who is this kid? It wasn’t the slide’s fault. This kid is always cold. A little icicle. Once he warmed back up, he went down that slide several more times. And even ran through the play area. He so badly wanted to shoot my mom (who came with us) with a water cannon. There is only one person on the planet who likes to be wet less than I. And that is my mom…
Then it was time for him to try a bigger slide. So we waited for him…to walk back down the slide tower. They had closed the ONE slide he wanted to go down. Boo. I was rather shocked that he was even thinking of going down the slide in the first place so I think he was secretly relieved it was closed.
The boys grabbed a snack and headed back to the slide area to watch the action. It looks like there are small drinks and snack items available right inside the water area gates but you can also eat inside Boomers or bring the food from Boomers Cafe back to the play area. So you really can spend the whole day here. The park will most likely close late September so be sure to check it out soon!
We really enjoyed checking out the new Buccaneer Cove at Boomers Irvine. Because it is all fenced in, it makes it fairly easy to watch multiple children. There was really something for almost every age group. An all day Buccaneer Cove Pass is $19.99 per person (or check out the website to see other pricing options which include more of the attractions at Boomers). AND you can even host your kid’s next birthday party there! $169.99 will get up to 8 people 2 slices of pizza and punch, 1 hour of a reserved table and decorations that you can print at home and bring to the party. Call (949) 313-1020 to reserve your party and ask about adding on more party guests.
Thanks so much for having us Buccaneer Cove! Arrrrggggg!
